Longtime Univision viewers will get a sense of déjà vu when they tune in to watch the network’s primetime novelas over the next year. The programming lineup for the 2019-2020 season includes several remakes of some of the most iconic and successful Televisa telenovelas: Los Ricos También Lloran, Cuna de Lobos, El Maleficio, La Usurpadora and Rubí.

During a press preview today, Univision unveiled its new content lineup for the next year, a week before its two-day Upfront event May 13-14. The media company also announced plans to supercharge two of its sister networks, relaunching Unimás as a “live entertainment destination” and rebranding cable sports net UDN to TUDN (pronounced tu-de-ene).

CEO Vince Sadusky, who took over the reins from Randy Falco last June, emphasized Univision’s return to the “core business” of Spanish-language broadcast programming and its close relationship to Televisa as part of the strategy to promote company growth – a departure from the previous management team’s focus on diversification into English-language digital content.

“We’ve been investing, we’ve been busy and we’ve refocused and reprioritized our goal,” said Sadusky, pointing to the company’s “long legacy and amazing connection with the community” as an opportunity of growth of “America’s Hispanic superbrand.”

The media company isn’t just “superbranding” the Univision network, but its sister properties as well. CMO and President of Entertainment Jessica Rodríguez said Unimás will be reprogrammed to focus on “bold live entertainment,” including live news, sports and reality shows.
