Rapid TV News: Univision Builds on Strong Start to 2019

Feb 10, 2019

By: Staff
After claiming to have ended 2018 with a ratings flourish, US Hispanic network Univision has set out the rest of its first quarter slate with which it hopes to maintain this momentum.

The company has announced that at the head of the slate will be “Me Caigo de la Risa” (I fall about laughing) which premieres on 17 February 2019. In this comedy/variety show, the cast is a dysfunctional family that must perform skits and show feats of skill and talent to beat the odds and the season will feature a number of celebrity guests.

Sunday nights in March will also be home to Pequeños Gigantes – Nueva Temporada (Little Giants – New Season) which spotlights groups of talented children from throughout the US who sing and dance with hopes of being recognised as the most gifted little entertainer. The children, aged 6–11, will test their artistic aptitude, ability to work together, and assume responsibilities beyond their years as they are mentored by celebrities and compete throughout the season, with the winner announced during the show’s season finale.

Univision hopes to replicate the success that it has seen recently and claims to have been the only broadcast network – English or Spanish – with primetime audience growth in the fourth quarter of 2018. More recently, the company revealed that the premiere of popular dance competition series Mira Quién Baila All Stars led to double-digit audience advantages over arch-rival Telemundo and wins over English-language broadcast programming. MQB’s season finale runs on 10 February.
