US Hispanic broadcast network Univision bested ABC, NBC and CBS in the key adults 18-34 demo this past Thursday at 10pm, with its showing of Amar A Muerte.

This makes it the only broadcast network reporting audience growth in primetime during fourth quarter in December compared to October among adults 18-34 (+3%). It ranked as the No 1 broadcast network in the demo for the second consecutive night in the 10 pm hour; and it ranked as the No 2 broadcast network in the demo for the entire night (8 pm-11 pm), driven by Amar A Muerte.

“We have seen continues success in 2019 as we regularly challenge the English-language top four broadcasters (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC) in the demo,” Univision said. “For instance, during the week of December 31, 2018 to January 6, 2019, Univision outperformed one or more of top English-language broadcasters – ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX – on five of seven nights among adults 18-34.”

Furthermore, over the past two Saturdays, live football has scored for Univision with Sábado Fútbolero delivering primetime wins in the demo on 7 January (vs ABC, CBS) and on 14 January (vs CBS, FOX, NBC).

“This feels like an a-ha moment since I imagine most folks don’t think of a Spanish-language network winning regularly in any demo over the Big 4 English-language networks, nevertheless one so important to the industry,” the company noted. “For the record, Univision with a median age of 46 is 10 years younger than the combined median age of the English-language broadcast networks — ABC 58 years old, CBS 61 years old, NBC 57 years old, FOX 53 years old and CW 49 years old – during primetime.”
