The 13-episode season will first air on Univision in Spanish and with English subtitles. As it happened with the two previous seasons, the third will debut globally on Netflix at a later date to be announced.

Co-produced by Story House Entertainment – Univision’s content development and production hub based in Los Angeles – and Netflix, season three sees El Chapo’s alliances within the DEA and Mexican government beginning to fall apart, setting off a chain of events that lead to the kingpin losing his strength, his allies, and ultimately his freedom.

Throughout the season viewers bear witness as El Chapo is captured by Mexican authorities (and his recent escape from a maximum-security prison) and is ultimately recaptured and extradited.

“This season sees the culmination of the journey the characters of El Chapo and Don Sol started in season one,” said series creator Silvana Aguirre. “It has been a great challenge to tell this important story with all its complexities and nuances. We have been privileged to see the audience’s reaction around the world and the success of the series to-date is a testament to the incredibly talented team that worked on the show in the past three years.”

Leading into the season three premiere on Univision, UniMas will air a marathon of the 12-episode second season on July 7 and 8.
