Univision’s Premiere of “Pequeños Gigantes” Headlines Powerful Sunday Night Performance

Special Coronavirus Edition of “Aquí y Ahora” Delivers Highest-Rated Telecast for the News Program During Current 2019/2020 Season

 

MIAMI – MARCH 23, 2020 – Univision’s Sunday night lineup featuring a special edition of “Aquí y Ahora” followed by the season five premiere of Univision’s popular child talent competition “Pequeños Gigantes” (Little Giants) and the long-awaited return of its “Sal y Pimienta” entertainment news program drove strong ratings for the broadcast network last night.

 

Beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT, “Aquí y Ahora: Faces of Coronavirus: A Discussion with the Experts” averaged 1.8 million Total Viewers 2+, 250,000 Adults 18-34, 698,000 Adults 18-49 and 751,000 Adults 25-54, marking its highest-rated telecast in the current 2019/2020 season across all these demographics. The special one-hour episode delivered more Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-34 than FOX during the telecast. “Aquí y Ahora” outperformed Telemundo’s first hour of “Exatlon Estados Unidos” with double-digit audience advantages among Total Viewers 2+ (+51% adv.), Adults 18-34 (+25% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+34% adv.) and Adults 25-54 (+37% adv.). On Facebook, it has also generated 23.7 million views.

 

Hosted by Galilea Montijo and featuring an all-star team of judges including Biby Gaytán, María León, Ariel Miramontes “Albertano” and Juanpa Zurita, the riveting return of “Pequeños Gigantes” (Little Giants) reached 5.6 million Total Viewers 2+ who tuned in to all or part of the premiere. Airing from 8:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT, the reality competition averaged 2.4 million Total Viewers 2+, 910,000 Adults 18-49, 352,000 Adults 18-34, positioning Univision ahead of CBS, NBC and FOX among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 in the time period. Additionally, Univision delivered more Total Viewers 2+ than FOX during the premiere of “Pequeños Gigantes.” Last night’s episode of “Pequeños Gigantes” ranks as the highest-rated reality series premiere on Spanish-language television in 2019 to 2020 to date and made Univision the No. 1 Spanish-language network during its premiere and for the entire night with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+89% advantage), Adults 18-49 (+70% advantage) and Adults 18-34 (+40% advantage).

 

Following the premiere of “Pequeños Gigantes,” Univision wrapped its Sunday night family-friendly programming lineup with the return of “Sal y Pimienta” (Salt and Pepper) featuring beloved hosts Jomari Goyso and Lourdes Stephen. Airing from 10:30 – 11:00 p.m. ET/PT, the half-hour entertainment news show averaged 1.6 million Total Viewers 2+, 580,000 Adults 18-49 and 229,000 and Adults 18-34. “Sal y Pimienta” positioned Univision ahead of CBS and NBC among Adults 18-34 and ahead of NBC with Adults 18-49 in the time period. For the entire night, Univision ranked as the No. 2 broadcast network, besting CBS, NBC and FOX among Adults 18-34. Additionally, Univision delivered more Adults 18-49 than NBC and FOX and outperformed FOX with Total Viewers 2+ on Sunday night. Univision also ranked as the No. 1 Spanish-language network from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+74% advantage), Adults 18-49 (+55% advantage) and Adults 18-34 (+34% advantage).
