Live Soccer Drives Univision to Victory Over ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and Telemundo on Saturday Night Among Both Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34
Univision Broadcast Prime Highlights – Week of July 30, 2018 to August 5, 2018
Univision outdelivered one or more of the English-language broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX) on six out of seven nights last week among Adults 18-34.
Last week, Univision finished ahead of CW in primetime with 1.1 million Total Viewers 2+, 461,000 Adults 18-49 and 193,000 Adults 18-34.
Univision’s “El Rico y Lázaro” averaged 1.5 million Total Viewers 2+, 565,000 Adults 18-49 and 238,000 Adults 18-34 while also positioned it as the No. 1 Spanish-language network in the weeknight 8pm hour, outperforming Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+42% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+7% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+3% adv.).
Univision’s “La Bella y Las Bestias” increased its audience from the prior week among Total Viewers 2+ (+3% to 1.2 million), Adults 18-49 (+7% to 487,000) and Adults 18-34 (+4% to 192,000). The series also drew in more Adult 18-34 viewers than first-run episodes of such English-language dramas as ABC’s “Quantico” and “Take Two;” CBS’ “Elementary” and “Salvation;” NBC’s “Reverie” and CW’s “Burden of Proof,” “The Hundred” and “The Outpost.”
Airing weeknights at 10pm, “La Piloto Season 2” attracted 964,000 Total Viewers 2+, 413,000 Adults 18-49 and 171,000 Adults 18-34, making Univision one of the top 5 broadcast networks during the Monday through Friday 10pm hour, out-delivering CBS with the young 18 to 34 demographic.
On Saturday night, Univision finished ahead of ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and Telemundo for the entire night among both Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 with its live coverage of “Liga MX.” The back-to-back soccer matches of Pachuca versus America and Cruz Azul versus Tigres UANL, delivered an average audience of 705,000 Total Viewers 2+, 395,000 Adults 18-49 and 172,000 Adults 18-34 while also outperformed FOX’s “Premier Boxing Champions,” featuring the fight between Berto and Alexander on this night by double-digit margins among Adults 18-49 (+35% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+67 adv.). Both games were also among the top-rated programs on all of broadcast television on Saturday night with the young Adult 18-34 viewers, ranking No. 4 “Pachuca versus America” (173,000) and No. 5 “Cruz Azul versus Tigres UANL” (172,000).
Univision’s two-hour airing of “Mira Quién Baila” averaged more Total Viewers 2+ (+52% to 1.2 million), Adults 18-49 (+37% to 452,000) and Adults 18-34 (+58% to 194,000) to the network’s 8pm to 10pm time slot from the comparable Sunday last year. The dance reality competition series also finished within the top 10 most-watched programs on broadcast television with more Adult 18-34 viewers than the entire original line-up on FOX (“One Strange Rock” and “IHeartCountry Festival”) as well as drove Univision to a first-place finish on Spanish-language television in the time period with double-digit audience advantage of +14% over Telemundo in the key 18 to 49 demographic.
