MIAMI – AUGUST 27, 2019 – Univision News, the award-winning news division of Univision Communications, Inc., the leading Hispanic media company in the U.S., today announced that María Martínez-Guzmán has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Executive News Director, effective immediately. Prior to this appointment, she was Vice President, News Gathering for Univision News.
In her new expanded role, Martínez-Guzmán will head programming efforts for all daily Univision Network news properties including the flagship newscast “Noticiero Univision” in its three editions (evening, late night, and weekend), the midday newscast “Noticiero Univision Edición Digital,” the newsmagazine “Primer Impacto,” the morning show “Despierta América,” and the entertainment show “El Gordo y La Flaca,” as well as the Sunday morning political show “Al Punto.” Executive producers for each of these news programs will now report directly to Martínez-Guzmán, while she will report to Daniel Coronell, president of Univision News.
Martínez-Guzmán joined the UCI family in 2002 after spending five years as News Director for the McAllen, Texas affiliate station Univision KNVO – Channel 48. During her tenure at Univision News’ headquarters in Miami, she has successfully held several positions, among them Executive Producer for the entire news division. In 2016 she was named Vice President of News Gathering, a key leadership role in which she took on the responsibility of managing nearly 200 newsroom employees, overseeing annual operating budgets, leading Univision News’ editorial line, and supervising production for all major Univision news coverage, among other important duties.
A distinguished broadcast journalism professional, Martínez-Guzmán has received several prestigious accolades throughout her career, including three Emmy Awards for executive production (2017, 2015, 2013), a Peabody Award (2012), and an IRE Award (2012). She was also selected as Univision’s “Best News Employee of the Year” in 2017.

Univision Noticias Asciende a María Martínez-Guzmán al Cargo de Vicepresidenta Senior y Directora Ejecutiva de Noticias
MIAMI –27 DE AGOSTO DE 2019 – Univision Noticias, la galardonada división de noticias de Univision Communications, Inc. (UCI), la principal empresa de medios de comunicación al servicio de la comunidad hispana en los Estados Unidos, anunció hoy que María Martínez-Guzmán ha sido ascendida a Vicepresidenta Senior y Directora Ejecutiva de Noticas, efectivo inmediatamente. Previo a este nombramiento, ejercía el puesto de Vicepresidenta de Recopilación de Información y Noticias para Univision Noticias. A partir de ahora, los productores ejecutivos de esos programas se reportarán directamente a Martinez-Guzman, y ella se reportará a Daniel Coronell, Presidente de Univision Noticias.
En su nuevo cargo, Martínez-Guzmán dirigirá la estrategia de programación de todas las propiedades de noticias diarias de la cadena Univision, incluidos el noticiero principal de la cadena, “Noticiero Univision”, en sus tres ediciones (verspertina, nocturna, y de fin de semana); el “Noticiero Univision Edición Digital”, transmitido al mediodía; el magacín de noticias “Primer Impacto”; el programa matutino “Despierta América” y el show de entretenimiento “El Gordo y La Flaca”, además del espacio político dominical “Al Punto”.
Martínez-Guzmán se incorporó a la familia Univision en 2002 tras pasar cinco años como Directora de Noticias para la estación afiliada local a Univision en McAllen, Texas, Univision KNVO – Canal 48. Desde su llegada a la sede de Univision Noticias en Miami, ha ocupado varios cargos con gran éxito, entre ellos el de Productora Ejecutiva para toda la división de noticias. En 2016, Martínez-Guzmán fue nombrada Vicepresidenta de Recopilación de Información y Noticias, un cargo clave en el que asumió la responsabilidad de supervisar a casi 200 empleados de la sala de noticias, crear y controlar presupuestos anuales de operación, dirigir la línea editorial de Univision Noticias y supervisar la producción de la principal cobertura noticiosa de Univision, entre otras importantes funciones.
Distinguida profesional del periodismo televisivo, Martínez-Guzmán ha recibido prestigiosos galardones a lo largo de su carrera, entre los cuales se cuentan tres premios Emmy por producción ejecutiva (2017, 2015, 2013), un premio Peabody (2012) y un premio IRE (2012). Además, fue honrada con el reconocimiento de “Mejor Empleado de Noticias” de Univision en 2017.
