Univision New York WXTV 41 Honored with Multiple Emmy Awards in Seven Categories by the New York Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences
NEW YORK – MAY 7TH, 2019 – Univision New York WXTV 41, the leading Spanish-language news station serving New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, received seven awards across multiple categories on during the 62nd Annual New York Emmy® Awards Gala held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Marriott Marquis’ Broadway Ballroom. Every year, the prestigious New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) honors excellence in broadcasting among the New York Tri-state area’s finest.
In a heartfelt tribute, the Academy paused the award ceremony to observe a moment of silence as a special acknowledgement to WXTV’s morning news anchor Luis Gomez, who lost his battle against testicular cancer a month ago. Minutes later, his name was called on stage twice as the Emmy winner in the category of Health Science, Feature Program or Segment for his segment, “Diary of My Struggle with Cancer” which educated and informed the public about the disease. The award was accepted on his behalf by VP of News Esteban Creste and members of Noticias 41 Univision’s news team. His second Emmy win was for Best Medical Talent/Reporter.
Other notable wins for Univision New York included Emmys for: Katiria Soto in the category of Best News Anchor; Esperanza Ceballos for her work in “Victims of Trujillo,” an inside look at the struggle caused by the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic; and for Yisel Tejeda’s work on “Bacteria Galore,” an investigation of the most bacteria-ridden public locations in New York City.
“It is a humbling experience for us to be recognized with seven Emmy® Awards, two of which were for our dearly departed colleague Luis Gomez,” said Roberto Yanez, President and General Manager at Univision New York. “I am exceedingly honored that Luis’ unfailing dedication to educating and informing the Hispanic community in the Tri-state area about this disease was recognized by the New York chapter of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.”

Univision Nueva York WXTV 41 recibió varios premios Emmy en siete categorías de la National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences de Nueva York
NUEVA YORK – 7 DE MAYO DE 2019 –WXTV 41 de Univision Nueva York, la principal estación de noticias en español al servicio de Nueva York, Nueva Jersey y Connecticut, recibió siete premios en varias categorías durante la 62da Ceremonia Anual de Premios Emmy® de Nueva York que tuvo lugar el sábado, 4 de mayo de 2019 en el Salón Broadway del Marriott Marquis. Todos los años, la sucursal de Nueva York de la prestigiosa National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) premia la excelencia en los medios de difusión de la región que abarca estos tres estados.
En emotivo homenaje, la Academia hizo una pausa en la ceremonia de premiación para guardar un minuto de silencio como un especial reconocimiento a Luis Gómez, el presentador del noticiero matutino de WXTV que perdió la batalla contra el cáncer testicular hace un mes. Minutos después, se escuchó su nombre dos veces desde el estrado, como ganador del Emmy en la categoría de Ciencias de Salud, Reportaje de Fondo o Segmento por “Diario de mi lucha contra el cáncer”, que educó e informó el público sobre la enfermedad. Aceptó el premio en su nombre el vicepresidente de noticias Esteban Creste y los miembros del equipo de Noticias 41 de Univision. Su segundo Emmy fue por Mejor Reportero/Talento en Temas Médicos.
Otros premios notables para Univision Nueva York incluyeron los Emmys para: Katiria Soto en la categoría de Mejor Presentador(a) de Noticias, Esperanza Ceballos por “Víctimas de Trujillo”, un reportaje sobre las consecuencias de la dictadura de Rafael Trujillo en la República Dominicana; y Yisel Tejeda por “Bacterias en todos lados”, una investigación sobre los lugares públicos con más bacterias en la ciudad de Nueva York.
