The Documentaries Were Part of the Official Selection of the Morelia International Film Festival and TAN CERCA DE LAS NUBES Won the Award in the “Eye of the Michoacán Section” Category
MIAMI – NOVEMBER 8, 2023 – ViX, the world’s leading Spanish-language streaming service, announced today that its original documentaries, UNA JAURÍA LLAMADA ERNESTO and TAN CERCA DE LAS NUBES will premiere exclusively on the service’s premium plan on November 10 and 15, respectively.
These documentaries produced by N+ participated in the competition of the 21st edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) that took place from October 20 to 29. TAN CERCA DE LAS NUBES won in the “Eye of the Michoacán Section” category.
UNA JAURÍA LLAMADA ERNESTO takes us on a journey into the depths of the most fragile link of organized crime, of victims and perpetrators: children. Scenes from the lives of young people that show, in turn, the panorama of the trafficking and transfer of weapons in Mexico, which reach the hands of minors so that, one day, they will be the ones to put their fingers on the trigger. Renowned documentary filmmaker Everardo González traces a mosaic of testimonies -through an innovative filming technique, internationally recognized, that closely follows the protagonists and, at the same time, protects their anonymity- that leads to a chilling image and confirms the pain of being afraid of someone who is also vulnerable. The daily life of these young people, their routines and emotions, show the weight of leading a double life: one in which they try to overcome the difficulties of adolescence and, at the same time, the real dangers of being part of illicit activities and the constant handling of firearms. TAN CERCA DE LA NUBES highlights a day in which the dream of many people came true: Mexico’s National Team reached the World Cup final for the first time, and this was achieved by a women’s team. Fifty years ago, against all odds, this women’s soccer team – made up of young girls who grew up on popular and “llaneras” soccer fields – in a short period of time managed to win the respect of millions of Mexicans and almost reached the glory, so close to the clouds. The protagonists of this feat recall the difficult road they traveled to be on the verge of that glory, which had a taste very close to triumph: it was an event that represented an unprecedented break within a sport capitalized by men; within a society where the value of memory and gender equity seem to be an eternal pending issue for women on and off the fields. Manuel Cañibe is the director and screenwriter of the documentary who is also producer along with José Nacif, Hugo Espinosa, Christian Cañibe, Laura Berrón and N+ Docs. Los documentales producidos por N+ participaron en la competencia de la 21ª edición del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM) que se llevó a cabo del 20 al 29 de octubre. TAN CERCA DE LAS NUBES ganó en la categoría “Ojo de la Sección Michoacana”.
UNA JAURÍA LLAMADA ERNESTO nos lleva en un viaje a las entrañas del eslabón más frágil del crimen organizado, de víctimas y victimarios: los niños. Escenas dentro de la vida de jóvenes que muestran, a su vez, el panorama del tráfico y trasiego de armas en México, las cuales llegan a las manos de menores de edad para que, un día, estos sean los que pongan los dedos en el gatillo. El reconocido documentalista Everardo González traza un mosaico de testimonios –a través de una innovadora técnica de filmación, reconocida a nivel internacional, que da seguimiento cercano a los protagonistas y resguarda, a la vez, su anonimato– que conduce a una imagen escalofriante y confirma el dolor que significa tenerle miedo a alguien que también es vulnerable. La cotidianidad de estos jóvenes, sus rutinas y emociones, evidencian el peso de llevar una doble vida: en la que se trata de sortear las vicisitudes propias de la adolescencia, y, al mismo tiempo, los peligros reales de formar parte de actividades ilícitas y el constante manejo de armas de fuego. TAN CERCA DE LA NUBES destaca un día en cual el sueño de muchas personas se hizo realidad: la Selección Nacional de México llegó por primera vez a una final de Copa del Mundo, y esto se logró por un equipo femenil. Hace 50 años, contra todo pronóstico, este equipo de futbol femenil –conformado por jóvenes que se hicieron en canchas populares y “llaneras”–, en poco tiempo logró conquistar el respeto de millones de mexicanos y estar casi en la gloria, tan cerca de las nubes. Las protagonistas de esta proeza recuerdan el arduo camino que recorrieron para estar en la antesala de esa gloria, que tuvo un sabor muy cercano al triunfo: fue un hecho que representó una ruptura sin precedentes dentro de un deporte capitalizado por los hombres; dentro de una sociedad donde el valor de la memoria y la equidad de género parecen ser un eterno pendiente para las mujeres dentro y fuera de las canchas.
