MIAMI, FL. – JULY 13, 2023 – Univision announced today that international superstar Shakira will be honored with the “Agent of Change” recognition at the 20th anniversary of PREMIOS JUVENTUD. The Colombian singer-songwriter has had a considerable impact on the musical landscape across the globe. Further to this, her philanthropic efforts with “Fundación Pies Descalzos” have established her as a changemaker and advocate for underserved communities. She will be recognized during the milestone ceremony that will air LIVE on Univision from the historic Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot on July 20 at 7p/6c.
Since the beginning of her career Shakira has devoted time to social causes, and in 1997 she created “Fundación Pies Descalzos.” The original idea was to help displaced children and their families in Colombia, creating equal opportunities for them to attend school and receive a good education. With a focus on providing low-income children with a better life, she began working with the public system and the Colombian Department of Education to give the community access to information, technology, the arts, and nutrition. Today, “Fundación Pies Descalzos” not only helps children, but also the parents and teachers, creating jobs in the communities where the schools are located.
For the past six years, PREMIOS JUVENTUD has not only celebrated music, fashion and pop culture in general, but has been committed to elevating agents of change, both artists and young Latinos who use their platform for the greater good. Previous “Agent of Change” honorees include Jesse & Joy, Maluma, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Kany Garcia, The Jenni Rivera Foundation, Ricky Martin, Becky G, Pitbull, Juanpa Zurita, and Wisin y Yandel.
Shakira is one of the most nominated artists of the night with nine nominations in the categories “Best Song for my Ex”, “Girl Power”, “Best Pop/Urban Collaboration” and “Premios Juventud Female Artist” among others.

Miami, FL. – 13 de julio de 2023 – Univision anunció hoy que la super estrella internacional Shakira, será homenajeada con el reconocimiento “Agente de Cambio” en la vigésima edición de PREMIOS JUVENTUD. La cantautora colombiana, quien a través de su extensa carrera musical ha recibido numerosos reconocimientos, tanto por su música como por su trabajo con “Fundación Pies Descalzos” como filántropa será honrada durante la histórica ceremonia que se transmitirá EN VIVO desde el Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot el 20 de julio a las 7p/6c.
Desde el inicio de su carrera Shakira ha dedicado tiempo a las causas sociales y en 1997 creó la “Fundación Pies Descalzos”. La idea original era ayudar a los niños desplazados y a sus familias en Colombia, creando igualdad de oportunidades para que estos asistieran a la escuela y tuvieran una buena educación. Fue así como comenzó a trabajar con el sistema público y el Departamento de Educación de Colombia para enfocarse en proveerle a niños de bajos recursos información, tecnología, idioma, danza y nutrición. Hoy en día, “Fundación Pies Descalzos” no solo provee ayuda a niños, sino también a padres y maestros generando trabajo en las comunidades donde están ubicadas sus escuelas.
Durante los últimos seis años, PREMIOS JUVENTUD no solo ha celebrado la música, la moda y la cultura pop en general, sino que se ha comprometido a destacar a los agentes de cambio, tanto artistas como jóvenes latinos que usan su plataforma para el bien común. El reconocimiento “Agente de Cambio” en el pasado ha sido otorgado a artistas como Jesse & Joy, Maluma, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Kany Garcia, Jenni Rivera Foundation, Ricky Martin, Becky G, Pitbull, Juanpa Zurita, y Wisin y Yandel.
