The 13-episode season premieres Monday, July 9 and will air Monday through Friday at 10 PM ET/PT on Univision Network with English subtitles. “El Chapo” is co-produced by Story House Entertainment and Netflix; season three will debut globally on Netflix at a later date to be announced.
Leading into the season three premiere on Univision Network, UniMás will air a marathon of the 12-episode second season on July 7 and 8, both nights from 5 to 11 PM ET/PT. Seasons one and two are also available for streaming on Netflix.
With his criminal organization functioning better than many legitimate international corporations, he has become one of the world’s most wanted criminals, as elusive as he is powerful—until now. Season three sees El Chapo’s alliances within the DEA and Mexican government beginning to fall apart, setting off a chain of events that lead to the kingpin losing his strength, his allies, and ultimately his freedom. Throughout the season viewers bear witness as El Chapo is captured by Mexican authorities, escapes from a maximum security prison, and is ultimately recaptured and extradited. The final season of the ripped-from-the-headlines drama reflects events that take place between 2009 and 2017.
Week one overview below:
- EPISODE 301 / MONDAY, JULY 9 @ 10PM — El Chapo decides to take his organization global, expanding his drug empire across five continents. However, his expansion is executed behind the back of his allies inside the DEA. Believing himself to be invincible, Joaquin disobeys a warning from the DEA and the agency decides to teach him a lesson he will not forget. Meanwhile, Don Sol looks to retain his power and influence by securing himself a place in a future government. Convinced that the party he serves won’t manage to return to Los Pinos, he renews his ties with former president 62. 62 offers Don Sol the position of Secretary of the Interior in the next government and introduces him to his goddaughter Berta, who also has presidential ambitions. 62 suggests that they should get married and the three of them form an alliance to take them to power.
- EPISODE 302 / TUESDAY, JULY 10 @ 10PM — As Don Sol seals a new deal with 62, the DEA puts its plan to control the Sinaloa Cartel into action: they arrest the son Ismael’s son Mayel, who oversees the organization’s international expansion, and they extradite him with unusual speed. It is a major blow to the Sinaloa leadership, and the message to Chapo is clearer than ever: if he doesn’t stay in line, he will share the same fate. Extradition is Joaquín’s worst fear, and he assures the government that he will take the steps to reassure the DEA. Nonetheless, at the pinnacle of power—traveling freely around the world with Elba—his pride gets the best of him: at Mayel’s trial, they decide to discredit the agency head-on, revealing its agreements with drug traffickers to American authorities. The strategy will backfire: the DEA regards it as treason and orders his downfall. So, begins the definitive efforts to arrest and extradite him.
- EPISODE 303 / WEDNESDAY, JULY 11 @ 10PM — El Chapo manages to evade the joint DEA-Navy operation, and resists leaving his home in Culiacán. He contacts Don Sol and negotiates a new mutual-support agreement: Joaquín will help him in the upcoming election, and once in power, Don Sol will protect him so that he can once again operate in complete freedom. Nonetheless, the DEA’s pursuit doesn’t stop, and a new operation forces Joaquín to leave his family and settle in the mountains. His exile has begun. Meanwhile, Don Sol’s ties to drug traffickers start to catch up with him on the path to power. The press and new political enemies harass the current Secretary of Security about the issue, and they threaten to reveal information that would put an end to his political ambitions. Even Esteban Prieto, the young PTI presidential candidate, casts doubt on Don Sol’s inclusion in his potential cabinet. But Don Sol is not alone: alongside Berta and 62, they will put their new alliance to the test and resolve this threat.
- EPISODE 304 / THURSDAY, JULY 12 @ 10PM — From his mountain exile, El Chapo must deal with the appearance of a new enemy: Isidoro, a young and ambitious Bernal Leyda boss, whose hunger for power leads him to accept the mission assigned to him by El Arriero from jail: get to El Chapo before anyone else, eliminate him and occupy his territories. Joaquín, who just received Elba’s visit and the news that she is pregnant, must leave her alone and go out to defend his territory. This time, however, he will play an unexpected role in the confrontation: rather than leading the defense, he will be protected and completely isolated. His men managed to hold on to the territory, but without intervention from him. Back in the mountains, Elba confirms that they will have twin girls, whom she has already named, and whose future she will decide, since Joaquín is sure to be absent. These events confirm Joaquín’s worst nightmare: without him, his entire world will go on. It’s a glimpse of what extradition would mean. Desperate to hold onto something, he promises Elba to be present for the birth of their twins.
- EPISODE 305 / FRIDAY, JULY 13 @ 10PM — Don Sol resigns from the government to work for Esteban Prieto’s presidential campaign and the PTI, which leaves Joaquín alone, with no one in power to protect him. El Chapo, having tried everything to be present for the twins’ birth, must protect them, and sends Elba to the U.S. to give birth. He also reaffirms his pact with Don Sol and offers to support the PTI candidacy in his territories with violence and money: his being able to see his family again depends on the victory of Esteban Prieto. Prieto, young and charming, is the perfect figurehead for the PTI’s return to power, but polls are not favoring him. Alongside Berta and 62, Don Sol designs a strategy to win the election: manipulation of polls, vote buying, voter coercion, and an offer of immunity for the current president, provided that he stops supporting his own candidate. Finally, Esteban Prieto wins, Don Sol is named Secretary of the Interior, and Joaquín manages to meet the twins and celebrate their baptism. After not being able to fulfill his first promise, he makes a new one to Elba: they will never again be separated.
Joining the cast of “El Chapo” for season three are Irán Castillo as actress Vanessa Espinoza; Marcela Mar as ‘Berta,’ an ambitious Congresswoman; and Moises Arizmendi as ‘Presidente 66.’ Returning in their roles are Marco de la O as El Chapo; Humberto Busto as Attorney Conrado Sol aka “Don Sol,” a key political party figure; Laura Osma as Elba, El Chapo’s third wife; Diego Vasquez as Ismael, one of El Chapo’s most trusted partners; Ivan Aragón as ‘Quino,’ El Chapo’s son and one of his key lieutenants; Wilmer Cadavid as ‘Dámaso,’ a former deputy warden of a maximum security prison who is a key part of El Chapo’s plot to escape prison.
‘El Chapo’ is created by Silvana Aguirre Zegarra and Carlos Contreras and produced by Daniel Posada. The third season is directed by three talented directors from two countries: Ernesto Contreras (México), Carlos Moreno (Colombia) and Julián de Tavira (México).

Univision Devela Nuevo Tráiler de la Última Temporada de “El Chapo”

La serie de 13 capítulos se trasmitirá de lunes a viernes y tendrá subtítulos en inglés

La temporada de 13 episodios se trasmitirá de lunes a viernes a las 10 PM Este/Pacífico por Univision con subtítulos en inglés. “El Chapo” es una coproducción de Story House Entertainment y Netflix; la fecha del estreno internacional de la tercera temporada por Netflix se anunciará posteriormente.
Antes del estreno de la tercera temporada en Univision, UniMás trasmitirá un maratón de los 12 episodios de la segunda temporada el 7 y 8 de julio, de 5 a 11 PM Este/Pacífico. La primera y segunda temporada también están disponibles por streaming en Netflix.
Ahora que su organización criminal funciona mejor que muchas corporaciones internacionales legítimas, El Chapo se ha convertido en uno de los criminales más poderosos y buscados del mundo, experto en eludir a los agentes de la ley. En la tercera temporada las alianzas del Chapo dentro de la DEA y el gobierno mexicano empiezan a desmoronarse, lo que desencadena una serie de sucesos que hacen que el cabecilla pierda poder, cómplices influyentes y, finalmente, la libertad. Durante la temporada, los televidentes son testigos de la captura del Chapo por las autoridades mexicanas, su escape de una prisión de máxima seguridad y, a fin de cuentas, su nueva detención y extradición. La temporada final del drama tomado directamente de los titulares refleja los acontecimientos entre 2009 y 2017.
- EPISODIO 301 / LUNES 9 DE JULIO A LAS 10PM — Establecido como rey del narco en México, “El Chapo” decide expandir su organización por los cinco continentes y consolidarse como el más grande del mundo. Sin embargo, su expansión la ejecuta a espaldas de sus socios en la DEA, quienes al percatarse de su real poder, deciden controlarlo antes de que se les salga de las manos. Creyéndose invencible, Joaquín desobedece una primera advertencia de la DEA, y la agencia decide darle una lección que no olvidará. Don Sol, mientras tanto, establecido en el poder, planea consolidarse en un futuro gobierno. Seguro que el partido al cual sirve no logrará volver a Los Pinos, retoma su vínculo con el ex-Presidente 62, quien aún maneja los hilos del PTI, y cuyas recomendaciones ha seguido al pie de la letra, rechazando y alejando de su vida definitivamente a Sebastián. El 62 le ofrece ser Secretario de Gobernación en un próximo gobierno y le presenta a Berta, una ahijada suya, quien también tiene ambiciones presidenciales. Les propone casarse y formar los tres una alianza que los lleve al poder.
- EPISODIO 302 / MARTES 10 DE JULIO A LAS 10 PM — Mientras Don Sol sella el nuevo pacto con el 62 casándose con su ahijada Berta, la DEA lleva a cabo su plan para intentar controlar al Cartel de Sinaloa: arrestan a Mayel, hijo de Ismael y encargado de la expansión internacional de la organización, y lo extraditan con una rapidez inusual. El golpe a la cúpula de Sinaloa es contundente, y el mensaje al Chapo más claro que nunca: si no se mantiene en regla, le esperará el mismo destino. La extradición – una muerte en vida –, significa el peor temor para Joaquín, quien asegura al gobierno que tomará medidas para tranquilizar a la DEA. Sin embargo, en la cima del poder y viajando con Elba por el mundo con total libertad, su soberbia puede más: las medidas son insuficientes, y en el juicio de Mayel deciden desprestigiar frontalmente a la agencia, delatando sus acuerdos con el narco ante autoridades norteamericanas. Es una estrategia que le jugará en contra: la DEA lo considera una traición y sentencia su caída. Se inicia la intervención para arrestarlo y extraditarlo definitivamente.
- EPISODIO 303 /MIÉRCOLES 11 DE JULIO A LAS 10 P.M. — “El Chapo” logra burlar el operativo conjunto de la DEA y la Marina, y se resiste a abandonar Culiacán, su hogar y plaza principal. Contacta a Don Sol y negocia un nuevo acuerdo de apoyo mutuo: Joaquín lo ayudará en las próximas elecciones, y una vez en el poder, Don Sol lo protegerá para que opere nuevamente con total libertad. Sin embargo, el acecho de la DEA no se detiene, y un nuevo operativo obliga a Joaquín a alejarse de su familia e instalarse en la sierra. Su exilio ha comenzado. Mientras, los vínculos de Don Sol con el narco empiezan a pasarle factura en su camino al poder. La prensa y nuevos enemigos políticos hostigan al actual Secretario de Seguridad con el tema, y amenazan con develar información que acabaría con sus ambiciones políticas. Incluso Esteban Prieto, el joven candidato presidencial del PTI, pone en duda la inclusión de Don Sol en su potencial gabinete. Pero Don Sol no está solo: junto a Berta y el 62 pondrán a prueba su nueva alianza y resolverán esta amenaza.
- EPISODIO 304 / JUEVES 12 DE JULIO A LAS 10 PM — Desde su exilio en la sierra, “El Chapo” debe lidiar con la aparición de un nuevo enemigo: Isidoro, un joven y ambicioso jefe de plaza de los Bernal Leyda, cuya hambre de poder lleva a aceptar la misión que le encarga el “Arriero” desde la cárcel: llegarle al “Chapo” antes que nadie, eliminarlo y ocupar sus territorios. Joaquín, que acaba de recibir la visita de Elba y la noticia de que está embarazada, debe dejarla sola y salir a defender sus plazas. Esta vez, sin embargo, cumplirá un rol inesperado en el enfrentamiento: la edad, el cansancio y el alto riesgo de la misión, pondrán en evidencia su vulnerabilidad, y en vez de liderar la defensa, será protegido y aislado completamente. Sus hombres logran conservan la plaza, pero sin su real intervención. De vuelta en la sierra, Elba le confirma que tendrán gemelas, a quienes ya les puso nombre, y cuyo futuro decidirá ella, pues seguramente Joaquín estará ausente. De esta manera, los acontecimientos le confirman a Joaquín su peor pesadilla: sin él, todo su mundo seguiría adelante. Es un anticipo de lo que significaría la extradición. Desesperado por aferrarse a algo, le promete a Elba estar presente en el nacimiento de sus gemelas.
- EPISODIO 305 / VIERNES 13 DE JULIO A LAS 10 PM — Don Sol renuncia al gobierno para dedicarse a la campaña presidencial de Esteban Prieto y el PTI, con lo cual deja a Joaquín solo, sin nadie que lo proteja desde el poder. El Chapo, habiéndolo intentado todo por estar presente en el nacimiento de las gemelas, debe protegerlas y envía a Elba para que dé a luz a Estados Unidos. Asimismo, reafirma su pacto con Don Sol y ofrece apoyar con violencia y dinero la candidatura del PTI en sus territorios: del triunfo de Esteban Prieto depende que pueda volver a ver a su familia. Prieto, joven y encantador, es la fachada perfecta del PTI para recuperar el poder, pero las encuestas no le favorecen. Junto a Berta y el 62, Don Sol diseña una estrategia para ganar las elecciones: manipulación de encuestas, compra de votos, coacción a votantes, y una oferta de inmunidad para el presidente actual, siempre y cuando desista de apoyar a su propia candidata. Finalmente, Esteban Prieto gana, Don Sol es nombrado Secretario de Gobernación, y Joaquín logra conocer a las gemelas y celebrar sus bautizos. Tras no haber podido cumplir su primera promesa, le hace una nueva a Elba: nunca más se separarán.

Vuelven a desempeñar su papel Marco de la O como el Chapo; Humberto Busto como el abogado Conrado Sol, alias “Don Sol”, un importante personaje político; Laura Osma como Elba, la tercera esposa del Chapo, Diego Vásquez como Ismael, uno de los socios de mayor confianza del Chapo; Iván Aragón como “Quino”, el hijo del Chapo y uno de sus principales subalternos; Wilmer Cadavid como “Dámaso”, un ex subalcaide de una prisión de máxima seguridad que desempeña un papel importante en el escape del Chapo de la prisión,
