Univision Miami, Papa John’s Pizza, Palmetto 57 Nissan and Volkswagen and Nova Southeastern University Honor 10 Outstanding South Florida Teachers with the “Un Maestro Especial” Award at the 17th Annual Awards Luncheon

MIAMI, FL – May 24, 2018 – Univision Miami, in collaboration with Papa John’s Pizza, Palmetto 57 Nissan and Volkswagen and Nova Southeastern University, honored 10 outstanding South Florida teachers at the 17th annual “Un Maestro Especial” (A Special Teacher) awards luncheon. Univision Miami Anchor Sandra Peebles hosted the event at the Miami Lakes Educational Center on Thursday, May 24th.

Created by Univision Miami 17 years ago, “Un Maestro Especial” recognizes and rewards teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty and have a distinct and profound impact on their students.

This year’s winners, selected from hundreds of applications submitted by students, parents, and professional colleagues, are:

  • Manuel Maestre, Kinloch Park Middle School
  • Susan Nussbaum, TERRA Environmental Research Institute
  • Edgar O. Rubio, Silver Trail Middle School
  • Anita Scott, Hialeah Gardens Middle School
  • Odalis Soto, Miami Lakes Educational Center
  • Nancy Valdes, Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School
  • Maggie Vidal-Santos, Ruth K Broad Bay Harbor K-8 School
  • Lauren Vila, Kendale Elementary School
  • Kelly Welsh, Hialeah Gardens Middle School
  • Daniel Vinat, Felix Varela High School

“Recognizing the champions of education through the “Un Maestro Especial” campaign is at the forefront of our mission of empowering our community,” said Claudia Puig, president and general manager of Univision Miami. “Together with our partners, we are able to pay tribute to the special teachers whose mission to teach goes beyond the classroom to positively impact our youth and their future.”

MIAMI, FL –24 DE MayO De 2018– Univision Miami, en colaboración con Papa John’s Pizza, Palmetto 57 Nissan y Volkswagen y Nova Southeastern University, premiaron a 10 maestros sobresalientes del sur de Florida en el 17mo almuerzo anual “Un Maestro Especial”. Sandra Peebles, presentadora de noticias de Univision Miami, fue la anfitriona del evento que se realizó el jueves, 24 de mayo en el centro educativo de Miami Lakes.

“Un Maestro Especial”, creado por Univision Miami hace 17 años, es un galardón para los maestros que van más allá del deber y tienen un impacto singular y profundo en sus alumnos.

Los ganadores de este año, seleccionados entre cientos de solicitudes presentadas por estudiantes, padres de familia y colegas, son:
