KISSIMMEE, FL – DECEMBER 22, 2017 –The stands were packed with players, friends, family members and local soccer fans as Manchester City FC walked on to the field to take on Weston FC for the first-ever Prospects Cup final. The U12 squads battled from the opening minutes but it was Manchester City FC’s Lakyle Samuel who would score first, followed by two goals by forward Justin Oboavwoduo, bringing the final to 3-0 and making them the champion of the inaugural Prospects Cup global youth soccer tournament.
Prospects Cup global athlete ambassador Christian Pulisic was on hand to celebrate the first-time event and present each of the teams with medals as well as the championship trophy. Additionally, the midfielder from Borussia Dortmund and the U.S. Men’s National team phenom, led a clinic for young athletes following the championship match.
Manchester City FC’s Joel Ndala won Golden Ball honors as the tournament’s best player while teammate Justin Oboavwoduo captured the Golden Boot award presented by Gatorade with six goals during the event. Weston FC’s keeper Diego Kochen won the Golden Glove award conceding only three goals over five matches.
In the consolation final, FC Dallas and Fluminense FC charged the field in what would be a battle between two strong defenses. In the end, it was Fluminense FC who came out on top besting the boys from Texas with a final score of 3-0.
The thrilling final day of competition was the culmination of five days full of soccer, family-friendly activities and cultural exchange between the 260 players, and their families, representing nine countries. Over 5,000 fans attended the Prospects Cup over the five-day event.
The tournament, which was modeled after the Little League World Series, took place throughout the week of December 18 at the world-class ChampionsGate Sports Field Complex at the Omni Orlando Resort in Kissimmee, FL. The U.S. contenders were: FC Dallas (Frisco, TX), Global Premier Soccer (Boston, MA), LA Galaxy (Los Angeles, CA), Orlando City SC (Orlando, FL), Real Jersey FC (Medford, NJ), Sockers FC (Chicago, IL), Tuzos Soccer Club (Phoenix, AZ) and Weston Soccer Club (Miami, FL). The international teams were: AS Roma (Italy), Boca Juniors (Argentina), Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Chivas (Mexico), Club América (Mexico), Fluminense FC (Brazil), Manchester City FC (England) and Real Madrid (Spain).
The tournament looked to crown the world’s best under-12 boys team. The round-robin tournament included 16 teams of boys 12-years and younger in groups and two divisions. Games were played in three elimination rounds. The group winners of each division, based upon cumulative points, advanced to the semifinals. The division runners-up played in the Consolation Final and the division titleholders faced off in the Prospects Cup championship match.

Manchester City FC Gana el Primer Campeonato Prospects Cup de 2017
KISSIMMEE, FL – 22 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2017 – Las tribunas estuvieron repletas de jugadores, amigos, familiares y fans locales del fútbol cuando Manchester City FC tomó la cancha para enfrentarse a Weston FC para la final del primer torneo Prospects Cup. Los equipos Sub-12 (de 12 años de edad o menores) lucharon desde los minutos iniciales, pero fue Lakyle Samuel de Manchester City FC quien anotó el primer gol, seguido por dos del delantero Justin Oboavwoduo, llevando el puntaje final a 3-0 y convirtiendo a su equipo en el campeón del primer torneo internacional de fútbol juvenil Prospects Cup.
Christian Pulisic, embajador internacional de deportes de Prospects Cup, estuvo presente para celebrar la primera edición del evento y otorgar medallas a los miembros de cada equipo como trofeos del campeonato. Además, Pulisic, mediocampista de Borussia Dortmund y fenómeno de la Selección Nacional Masculina de Estados Unidos, dirigió una clínica para jóvenes deportistas después del partido decisivo.
Joel Ndala de Manchester City FC logró la distinción de Bola de Oro como el mejor jugador del torneo, mientras que Justin Oboavwoduo se hizo merecedor del premio Bota de Oro otorgado por Gatorade por apuntar seis goles durante el evento. El arquero de Weston FC Diego Kochen ganó el galardón Guante de Oro por permitir solo tres goles durante cinco partidos.

El propósito del torneo fue declarar campeón al mejor equipo de muchachos Sub-12 (de 12 años de edad o menores). Participaron en el campeonato tipo eliminación “todos contra todos” o round-robin, 16 equipos de muchachos de 12 años de edad o menores en dos divisiones. Jugaron en tres rondas eliminatorias de partidos. El grupo de ganadores de cada división, según puntos acumulados, pasó a las semifinales. Los subcampeones de división jugaron en la final de consolación, y los ganadores de división se enfrentaron en el partido decisivo de Prospects Cup.
