“Premios Univision Deportes” Celebrates the Accomplishments of Great Athletes, Recognizing their Lifetime Achievements and Humanitarian Efforts
Distinguished Artists and Athletes Attended the Fourth Annual Event: Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, Oscar De la Hoya and Avilés Hurtado Headlined the List of Winners and Honorees
MIAMI, FL – DECEMBER 17, 2017 – The sports and entertainment world came together Sunday evening for the fourth edition of “Premios Univision Deportes” (Univision Sports Awards). Hosted by Julián Gil and Ninel Conde, the two-hour awards gala featured some of the biggest names in sports, including Óscar De la Hoya, Javier “Chicharito” Hernández and Avilés Hurtado.
“We are proud to once again celebrate some of Hispanic America’s favorite athletes across various sports who have achieved greatness both on and off the field of play,” said Juan Carlos Rodríguez, president of Univision Deportes. “Premios Univision Deportes continues to prove our commitment to bringing ‘fanáticos’ the athletes and entertainers they are passionate about, and solidifies our position as the leading sports brand for Hispanic America.”
Winners were chosen in 15 categories, and this year, fans got to vote for their favorites. Nominees were chosen based on passion, athletic excellence and dedication to the community. Below is the complete list of 2017 winners by category:

Adding to the night’s festivities were special performances by Becky G, Yandel, Alta Consigna, Carlos Rivera, Natalia Jiménez, Cirque du Soleil and Ninel Conde. Surprising audiences during the award show was Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Tim Dillard, who after going viral on social media lip-syncing with famous Latin artists, showed off his singing abilities with his rendition of “Andas en mi Cabeza.”
The awards ceremony, which not only recognizes the athletic efforts of great sports figures but their philanthropic achievements as well, was filled with emotional acceptance speeches and touching dedications. Among them, Venezuelan baseball players Freddy Galvis, Rougned Odor, Jhoulys Chacín and Carlos González who received the Humanitarian Award for the financial support they provided to the Venezuelan youth national baseball team, allowing them to participate in the Little League World Series held this year in Pennsylvania. Mexican soccer player, Ezequiel Orozco received a standing ovation after receiving the “Sports Fighter of the Year” award recognizing his courage as he plays his toughest game yet against lung cancer.
Receiving the Mexican National Top Team Goal Scorer honor was Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, who thanks to Univision Deportes’ technological innovation, was able to remotely accept his award via “UD Teleportation.”
In addition to airing on Univision and UDN, the fourth annual broadcast of “Premios Univision Deportes” was available via the Univision Deportes app, Univisiondeportes.com and Univision NOW.
“Premios Univision Deportes” was preceded by a red-carpet event, which aired at 7 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. CT. Hosted by Univision Deportes talent Lindsay Casinelli and Alejandro Berry, fans got the chance to see interviews with their favorite stars and athletes.

MIAMI, FL –17 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2017 – El mundo de deportes y el del entretenimiento se unieron la noche del domingo para la cuarta edición anual de “Premios Univision Deportes”. Bajo la conducción de Julián Gil y Ninel Conde, la ceremonia de premiación, que duró dos horas, destacó a algunos de los más renombrados deportistas, entre ellos Óscar De la Hoya, Javier “Chicharito” Hernández y Avilés Hurtado.
“Es un orgullo para nosotros entregar los “Premios Univision Deportes” a talentosos atletas de diferentes deportes que han alcanzado el honor más alto no solo en la cancha sino en otras partes este año”, dijo Juan Carlos Rodríguez, presidente de Univision Deportes. “Año tras año, nuestro compromiso de traerles a los fanáticos los mejores deportistas y artistas de todo el país, y reunirlos bajo un solo techo afianza nuestra posición como la más destacada marca de deportes entre los hispanos en Estados Unidos”.

Realzaron las festividades de la velada presentaciones especiales por Becky G, Yandel, Alta Consigna, Carlos Rivera, Natalia Jiménez y Cirque du Soleil. El lanzador de los Milwaukee Brewers Tim Dillard sorprendió al público durante la ceremonia de premiación, pues después de un video viral en redes sociales en el que simuló cantar con artistas latinos famosos, demostró sus dotes para el canto con su interpretación de “Andas en mi cabeza”.
La ceremonia de premiación, que no solo reconoce los esfuerzos deportivos de grandes atletas sino también sus logros filantrópicos, estuvo repleta de emotivos discursos de aceptación y conmovedoras dedicaciones. Entre ellos estuvieron los beisbolistas venezolanos Freddy Galvis, Rougned Odor, Jhoulys Chacín y Carlos González, quienes recibieron el Reconocimiento a la Labor Humanitaria por su ayuda económica al seleccionado juvenil de béisbol de su país, lo que les permitió participar en la Serie Mundial de las Ligas Menores este año en Pennsylvania.
Otro reconocimiento notable fue para el boxeador mexicano Óscar De la Hoya, quien protagonizó uno de los momentos más memorables de la noche cuando recibió el Reconocimiento Trayectoria Deportiva. El galardón al Goleador del Tri del Año lo recibió Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, quien con la tecnología de Univision Deportes, pudo aceptar su premio remotamente, vía “teleportación”.
Además de trasmitirse por Univision y UDN, la cuarta edición anual de “Premios Univision Deportes” se pudo ver con el app de Univision Deportes, Univisiondeportes.com y Univision NOW.
Antes de los “Premios Univision Deportes”, hubo un evento de alfombra roja, que se trasmitió a las 7 p.m. Este/ 6 p.m. Centro. Los anfitriones fueron Lindsay Casinelli y Alejandro Berry de Univision Deportes, y los fans tuvieron la oportunidad de ver entrevistas a sus estrellas y deportistas favoritos.
