“Keep the Dream Alive: Se Vale Soñar” to Air Today, September 6th at 6 p.m. PT on KMEX-TV, Channel 34
Los Angeles – SEPTEMBER 6, 2017 – Univision Los Angeles in partnership with the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) come together to present a special edition of KMEX-TV, Channel 34’s 6 p.m. newscast titled “Keep the Dream Alive: Se Vale Soñar” (It’s Worth Dreaming). The 30-minute program is a response to President Trump’s plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Anchors Leon Krauze and Andrea González will moderate the special airing on Univision’s Los Angeles station KMEX-TV, Channel 34 today, September 6 at 6 p.m. PT.
Univision Los Angeles and CHIRLA will convene a panel of speakers that will address the pressing concerns over the recent White House decision to rescind DACA, what this means to those impacted and what the next steps are. The panel will have immigration attorneys on-hand to help offer information to the community. Young immigrants, also referred to as DREAMers, will be on hand to give their testimony to what this decision means to them and their families.
“Our community is living in fear and desperation. Our goal is to provide our audience with all the news, information and resources they need to navigate these complicated times and make informed decisions,” said Marco Flores, Vice President of News.
There are approximately 800,000 DACA participants currently in the United States, with 242,000 in California alone. The special will address the impact this decision could have on the local and national economy should the program be eliminated, as well as the potential disruption in people’s lives as the details of the program’s demise come to light.
“The lives of nearly 1 million young immigrants protected under DACA, their families, and the communities where they live, are about to be impacted by a decision which could have been easy to make. And yet, we stand on the edge of an immoral, political, and very cruel undertaking by an Administration who keeps its promises to a small minority regardless of the negative implications to the rest of nation. Young immigrants and their families will continue to fight for dignity, justice, and the American Dream,” stated Angelica Salas, CHIRLA Executive Director.

LOS ÁNGELES – 6 DE SETIEMBRE DE 2017 – Univision Los Ángeles en colaboración con la Coalición por los Derechos Humanos de los Inmigrantes (Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights o CHIRLA) se unen para presentar una edición especial del noticiero de las 6 p.m. de KMEX-TV, Canal 34 titulada “Mantengamos Vivo el Sueño: Se Vale Soñar”. El programa de 30 minutos es en respuesta al plan del Presidente Trump de rescindir la Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals o DACA). Los presentadores León Krauze y Andrea González serán los moderadores de la trasmisión especial por el canal 34 de Univision de Los Ángeles, KMEX-TV, hoy 6 de setiembre a las 6 p.m. Pacífico.
Univision Los Ángeles y CHIRLA presentarán un panel de expertos que expondrán los aspectos más urgentes de la reciente decisión de la Casa Blanca de rescindir DACA, lo que significa para los afectados y cuáles deben ser los próximos pasos. El panel contará con abogados de inmigración para ofrecer información a la comunidad. También participarán jóvenes inmigrantes, los llamados DREAMers, para dar su testimonio sobre lo que significa esta decisión para ellos y sus familiares.
“Nuestra comunidad está viviendo con temor y desesperación. Nuestra meta es proveer a nuestra audiencia con todas las noticias, la información y los recursos que necesita para que se oriente en estos momentos complicados y que tome decisiones estando informada”, dijo Marco Flores, vicepresidente de Noticias.
Hay aproximadamente 800,000 participantes de DACA actualmente en Estados Unidos, entre ellos, 242,000 están en California. El especial expondrá el impacto que esta decisión puede causar en la economía local y nacional si el programa es eliminado, así como los posibles efectos negativos en la vida de la gente ahora que se van conociendo mejor los detalles de la cancelación del programa.
“La vida de casi un millón de inmigrantes jóvenes protegidos por DACA, sus familiares y las comunidades donde viven, se va a ver severamente afectada, y habría sido tan fácil tomar la decisión correcta. Sin embargo, estamos al borde de una disposición inmoral, política y muy cruel de una Administración que mantiene las promesas que le hizo a una minoría muy pequeña, a pesar de las consecuencias negativas para el resto del país. Los jóvenes inmigrantes y sus familiares seguirán luchando por la dignidad, la justicia y el Sueño Americano”, afirmó Angélica Salas, directora ejecutiva de CHIRLA.
