Inaugural Global Event Pairs with the Youngest Pro on the Men’s U.S. National Team in an Effort to Support the Shared Mission of Growing Youth Soccer

NEW YORK – AUGUST 29, 2017– Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, has partnered with 18-year-old soccer phenom Christian Pulisic who will serve as an athlete ambassador for the inaugural Prospects CupSM – a global event that will bring 16 amateur youth soccer teams from around the world competing for the sport’s first youth soccer world championship. This first-ever international youth soccer tournament will be held at the world-class Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate Sports Field Complex from December 18-22, 2017.
Pulisic, currently a midfielder on the German soccer club Borussia Dortmund and the U.S. Men’s National team, is known for his humble attitude and level head in addition to his record-setting accomplishments. As the youngest American player to score in a World Cup qualifier, Pulisic’s soccer skills run in the family as his parents, Mark and Kelley, both played collegiate soccer at George Mason University and his father also played professional indoor soccer for the Harrisburg Heat in the 1990s, later becoming a coach at both youth and professional levels.
“I am thrilled to be included in this inaugural global soccer event that will showcase some of the sport’s great young athletes,” said Pulisic. “But more than it being a personal thrill for myself, I am incredibly excited for the 12-year-old boys from all around the world who will gain insight to new cultural experiences and new friendships which is something I’m very proud to say I’m part of. My family and I are looking forward to seeing this great event in person for the Championships in Kissimmee in December.”
Inspired by the Little League World Series model, the tournament looks to crown the world’s best under-12 boys team. The round-robin tournament will include 16 teams of boys 12-years or younger in groups and two divisions. Games will be played in three elimination rounds. The group winners of each division, based upon cumulative points, will advance to the semifinals. The division runners-up will play in the Consolation Final and the division titleholders will face off in the Prospects Cup championship match.
“Christian is an integral part of the Prospects Cup not only as both a U.S. and International soccer star, but also as an advocate in helping to grow the future of youth soccer,” said Rick Alessandri, executive vice president of Enterprise Development and head of UCI Live. “With Christian’s support of this inaugural event, it is our hope we will provide a global platform for the next Christian Pulisic who wants to follow their dream.”
In July, Univision announced the first eight amateur youth soccer teams invited to compete in the inaugural Prospects CupSM that included: Academy teams from Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs FC Dallas, LA Galaxy and Orlando City Soccer; U.S. Youth Soccer teams Pachuca Tuzos Academy (Phoenix) and Real Jersey FC (Medford, NJ); U.S. Development Academy’s Weston Soccer Club (Miami); Sockers FC (Chicago) and Global Premier Soccer (Boston).
Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of UCI, will broadcast Prospects Cup from December 18 through December 22 on UDN (Univision Deportes Network), the most-watched Spanish-language cable sports network and preferred destination for fútbol fans in the U.S.

NUEVA YORK – 29 DE AGOSTO DE 2017– Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), la principal empresa de medios de comunicación al servicio de la comunidad hispana en Estados Unidos, se ha asociado al fenomenal futbolista de 18 años de edad, Christian Pulisic, quien será el embajador deportivo de la primera Prospects CupSM, un evento mundial que congregará a 16 equipos de fútbol juvenil amateur de todo el mundo, para competir en el primer campeonato mundial juvenil de este deporte. Este primer torneo internacional de fútbol juvenil se realizará en el prestigioso hotel Omni Orlando Resort en la cancha Champions Gate Sports Field Complex del 18 al 22 de diciembre de 2017.
Pulisic, mediocampista del club alemán de fútbol Borussia Dortmund y miembro de la selección masculina de Estados Unidos, es conocido por su sencillez y sensatez, además de sus logros y récords alcanzados. Pulisic es el jugador más joven de Estados Unidos que anotó un gol en una eliminatoria de la Copa Mundial, y su destreza en la cancha le viene de familia, ya que sus padres, Mark y Kelley, jugaron al fútbol en George Mason University, y su padre también fue jugador profesional de fútbol-sala del Harrisburg Heat en la década de 1990 y fue entrenador a nivel juvenil y profesional posteriormente.
“Estoy muy contento de que me incluyan en la inauguración de este evento mundial de fútbol en que participarán algunos de los mejores atletas jóvenes”, dijo Pulisic. “Pero además de ser un gusto para mí, estoy sumamente entusiasmado de que chicos de 12 años de todo el mundo puedan contar con la perspectiva de nuevas experiencias culturales y nuevas amistades, y estoy muy orgulloso de participar. El propósito del torneo, inspirado en el modelo de la Serie Mundial de las Pequeñas Ligas, es coronar al mejor equipo del mundo sub-12 de muchachos. El torneo tipo round-robin o eliminación “todos contra todos” incluirá a 16 equipos de muchachos de 12 años de edad o menores en dos divisiones. Los partidos se jugarán en tres rondas eliminatorias. Los ganadores del grupo de cada división, según puntos acumulados, pasarán a las semifinales. Los equipos que ocupen el segundo lugar jugarán en el partido de consolación final y los campeones de la división se enfrentarán en el partido de Prospects Cup por el campeonato.
