Sun Sentinel: Fort Lauderdale, Kissimmee in Running to Host Global Youth Soccer Event

Feb 16, 2017

Two cities in Florida, Fort Lauderdale and Kissimmee, are among four locations around the U.S. that are being considered to host a world championship for youth soccer.

The inaugural Prospects Cup is being presented by UCI Live, a unit of Univision Communications Inc., and will bring 16 soccer teams from around the world to compete in a youth world championship.

The event, scheduled for Dec. 18-22, will use the Little League World Series as a model and seeks to crown the world’s best under-12 boys team, Univision officials said.

The other cities in the running to host the event are Anaheim, California and Houston, Texas.

As part of the bidding process, UCI Live will conduct site visits and meetings in each of the four finalist cities during the next three weeks.  The host city will be announced in March, officials said.
