SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – DECEMBER 5, 2016 – Univision Puerto Rico, a division of Univision Communications Inc., today announced the appointment of Michael Gillespie to President and General Manager, effective immediately. In this role, Gillespie will be responsible for the overall direction and operation of all of Univision Puerto Rico’s properties, which include two television stations Univision Canal 11 and Tele Isla Canal 7 as well as two radio stations WKAQ-580 (WKAQ-AM & WYEL-AM); KQ105 (WUKQ-FM) and (WUKW-FM) and Univision’s digital assets on the island. Gillespie will report to John Eck, Chief Local Media Officer for Univision Communications Inc.
Jaime Bauzá, who joined Univision Puerto Rico in 2008 and is a recognized industry leader, will continue to serve as general manager of Univision Puerto Rico’s radio operations and will report directly to Gillespie.

Gillespie started his media career in Puerto Rico at the radio station WOSO and Canal 13. After various roles in radio and television in Puerto Rico and the U.S., he joined Telemundo where he served for nearly a decade in a number of network sales roles, including Vice President of Network Sales. Most recently, Gillespie was Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer where he oversaw all revenue for the ZGS Television Station Group and digital platform. In this role, his responsibilities included directing the national sales team for 12 Telemundo affiliate stations and overseeing the day-to-day operations of Telemundo New England.
For the last year, he has also served as a volunteer for the National Park Service at San Juan National Historic Sites El Morro and San Cristobal fortresses where he led communications efforts for the Centennial 2016 celebration and spearheaded a number of fundraising initiatives for the organization.
Gillespie lives in Puerto Rico with his wife and is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

MICHAEL GILLESPIE, VETERANO DE MEDIOS DE COMUNICACIÓN EN ESPAÑOL, REGRESA A PUERTO RICO COMO PRESIDENTE Y GERENTE GENERAL DE UNIVISION PUERTO RICO
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO –5 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2016 – Univision Puerto Rico, una división de Univision Communications Inc., anunció hoy el nombramiento de Michael Gillespie como presidente y gerente general, entrando en vigencia de forma inmediata. En este puesto, Gillespie estará a cargo de la dirección y operación general de todas las propiedades de Univision Puerto Rico, que incluyen las estaciones de televisión, Univision Canal 11 y Tele Isla Canal 7, así como también las estaciones de radio –WKAQ-580 (WKAQ-AM y WYEL-AM), KQ105 (WUKQ-FM y WUKW-FM)– y las propiedades digitales de Univision en la isla. Gillespie reportará a John Eck, director de medios locales de Univision Communications Inc.
Jaime Bauzá, quien se incorporó a Univision Puerto Rico en 2008 y es un reconocido líder del sector, seguirá desempeñándose como gerente general de operaciones de radio en Univision Puerto Rico y reportará directamente a Gillespie.

Su sobresaliente carrera es destacada por sus habilidades como líder y su compromiso de impulsar el crecimiento de las estaciones locales en mercados hispanos clave en los Estados Unidos,” dijo Eck. “Estoy seguro de que su experiencia, entrega y gran conexión con Puerto Rico nos ayudará a elevar nuestra misión de servir a la comunidad a un nuevo nivel.”

Estoy muy entusiasmado con el camino por delante y de aportar ideas novedosas para servir a nuestros clientes, socios y, lo más importante, a la comunidad,” dijo Gillespie. “Mi profundamente arraigada conexión con Puerto Rico surgió hace más de tres décadas cuando mi esposa y yo nos conocimos y finalmente nos mudamos aquí después de la universidad. Si bien mi carrera me llevó a diversas partes de los Estados Unidos, siempre le hemos tenido mucho cariño a esta isla y nos complace poder volver a hacerla nuestro hogar.”
Gillespie inició su carrera en medios de comunicación en Puerto Rico, en la estación de radio WOSO y Canal 13. Tras desempeñarse en varios cargos en radio y televisión en Puerto Rico y los Estados Unidos, se incorporó a Telemundo, donde trabajó durante casi una década en diversas funciones de ventas a nivel de la cadena, entre las que se incluye vicepresidente de ventas de Cadena. Recientemente, Gillespie fue vicepresidente ejecutivo y director de ingresos, donde estuvo a cargo de supervisar todos los ingresos del grupo de estaciones de televisión ZGS y su plataforma digital. En ese puesto, entre sus responsabilidades se encontraban dirigir al equipo de ventas nacionales de 12 estaciones afiliadas a Telemundo y supervisar las operaciones diarias de Telemundo en Inglaterra.
Durante el último año, también ha trabajado como voluntario del Servicio Nacional de Parques en las fortalezas de El Morro y San Cristóbal, sitios históricos nacionales de San Juan, donde dirigió los esfuerzos de comunicación para la celebración del Centenario en 2016 y varias campañas de recaudación de fondos a favor de la organización.
Gillespie vive en Puerto Rico con su esposa y se graduó de la University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
