CHICAGO – OCTOBER 10, 2016 – Univision Chicago officially announced a partnership with the Pulitzer Prize-winning website of the Tampa Bay Times, PolitiFact, to closely examine the accuracy of claims made by elected officials and others who speak up in local, state or national American politics.

The collaboration, which marks PolitiFact’s first Spanish-language news partnership, will include weekly segments on Noticias Univision Chicago leading up to elections in November. Every week, Noticias Univision Chicago’s anchor Mariano Gielis will refer to PolitiFact Illinois data to report on the accuracy of political ads and statements made by elected officials and candidates during debates and press conferences including any spokesperson on matters of public importance. The statements are fact-checked and evaluated on the PolitiFact site and given a true or false rating.

“We are so excited to see PolitiFact’s Truth-O-Meter in Spanish and to have a partner like Noticias Univision Chicago willing to help separate fact from fiction. Voters and viewers deserve honest, transparent information, and to know when politicians are telling the truth — or not,” said PolitiFact Executive Director Aaron Sharockman.

“As a mission-driven Company, we are committed to informing our Hispanic community on the issues that matter during the election cycle,” said Teri Arvesu, Univision Chicago New Director. “By partnering with PolitiFact, we’re able to provide vital facts and information on the election in a clever and entertaining way.”
