Banda Los Recoditos, Chiquis, Luis Coronel, Jesse & Joy, Pitbull to join all-star lineup at the prestigious Latin music awards show
Hosted by Galilea Montijo and Arath de la Torre, “Premio Lo Nuestro” airs Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. ET/PT (6 p.m. Central) on the Univision Network
MIAMI, FL – FEBRUARY 4, 2016 – Adding even more star power to an already-impressive lineup, the 28th edition of Univision Network’s “Premio Lo Nuestro” (PLN) presents for the first time the newly-reunited duo Sin Bandera. In honor of this special appearance, PLN is inviting fans to help choose the song for them to perform during their highly anticipated return via social media using the hashtag #SB+YourFavoriteSong.
Hosted by Galilea Montijo and Arath de la Torre, the premier celebration of Latin music in the U.S. will air on the Univision Network LIVE from the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, FL on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at 7 p.m. ET/PT (6 p.m. Central).
Univision has announced that, in addition to the Mexican-Argentine duo, several other top acts will be showcased on the long-running awards program. Urban music superstar Pitbull Mr. Worldwide promises a spectacular performance. Renowned Banda Los Recoditos, which is nominated in the Mexican Regional category for Album of the Year, Banda Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Group or Duo of the Year, will make their first PLN appearance.
Also set to perform is heartthrob Luis Coronel, who is up for Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year awards in the Mexican Regional category; Chiquis, who is nominated for Female Artist of the Year in the same category; as well as by Mexican brother-and-sister duo Jesse & Joy, who are in the running for the Group or Duo of the Year award in the Pop/Rock category.
As previously announced, a highlight of this year’s PLN will be the awarding of the “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia” to Carlos Vives. The renowned Colombian singer-songwriter, whose numerous international honors include five PLN awards, is also nominated this year in the Video of the Year category for his song “Tierra del Olvido.” Previously-confirmed performers set to appear on PLN include Tropical Urban group and two-time nominees Gente de Zona; Regional Mexican artist Gerardo Ortiz, who is up for four awards in two separate categories; Tropical sensation Prince Royce, who is nominated for four awards in the Tropical category; pop superstar and two-time nominee Thalía; well-known urban artist nominee Yandel; and popular urban singer Maluma.
“Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” recognizes and celebrates the top artists in the U.S. Latin music industry. The winners for the longest-running and most popular award show honoring Latin music among U.S. Hispanics are chosen by popular vote by music fans, making it ‘the people’s award’ (el premio de todos). Fans choose the winners from a list of nominees, which is based on data provided by Mediabase, Big Champagne and Buzz Angle Music. Nominations are based on the Top 500 Latin songs from Sept. 1, 2014 to Aug. 30, 2015. Fans were able to vote for their favorites in December on PremioLoNuestro.com. All winners will be announced on the night of this year’s ceremony.
“Premio Lo Nuestro” starts at 7 p.m. ET/PT (6 p.m. Central) with “Noche de Estrellas” (Night of Stars), a live pre-show special that gives fans a first peek at the talent arrivals for a glamorous and special night.

En honor a su presentación especial, PLN invita a los fanáticos a que ayuden a escoger la canción que el dúo presente durante su tan esperado regreso al escenario a través de las redes sociales utilizando el hashtag #SB+NombreDeTuCancionFavorita.

Univision ha anunciado que, además del dúo mexicano-argentino, se presentarán muchos otros artistas de primera en el programa de premiación de más larga trayectoria. La súper estrella de la música urbana Pitbull Mr. Worldwide promete un acto espectacular. La reconocida Banda Los Recoditos, nominada bajo la categoría Regional Mexicana para Álbum del Año, Artista de Banda del Año, Canción del Año y Grupo o Dúo del Año, se presentará por primera vez en el escenario de PLN.
Otros que también están listos para presentarse son el sensacional Luis Coronel, quien es candidato a los premios Álbum del Año y Artista Masculino del Año bajo la categoría Regional Mexicana; Chiquis, quien ha sido nominada a Artista Femenina del Año bajo la misma categoría, como también el dúo de hermanos mexicanos Jesse & Joy, quienes compiten por el premio al Grupo o Dúo del Año en la categoría Pop/Rock.
Como se anunció previamente, un momento culminante de PLN este año será cuando se otorgue el “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia” a Carlos Vives. El renombrado cantautor colombiano, cuyos numerosos galardones incluyen cinco premios PLN, también es candidato este año bajo la categoría Video del Año por su canción “Tierra del olvido”. Entre los artistas que confirmaron previamente que se presentarán en PLN están el grupo tropical urbano Gente de Zona, nominado a dos premios; el artista regional mexicano Gerardo Ortiz, quien es candidato a cuatro premios bajo dos categorías distintas; la sensación tropical Prince Royce, nominado a cuatro premios bajo la categoría Tropical; la súper estrella del pop y doble nominada Thalía; el reconocido artista de música urbana y también nominado Yandel; y el popular cantante urbano Maluma.
El “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” reconoce y celebra a los principales artistas de la música latina en los Estados Unidos. Se selecciona por voto popular de los fans de la música a los ganadores de la ceremonia de premiación más popular y de más larga trayectoria dedicada a la música latina que escuchan los hispanos en los Estados Unidos, lo que lo hace el premio de todos. Los fans seleccionan a los ganadores de una lista de artistas nominados, que se basa en datos proporcionados por Mediabase, Big Champagne y Buzz Angle Music. Las nominaciones se basan en las 500 canciones latinas más populares del 1 de septiembre de 2014 al 30 de agosto de 2015. Los fans pudieron votar por sus preferidos en diciembre en PremioLoNuestro.com. Todos los ganadores serán anunciados durante la noche de la ceremonia de este año.
