Carlos Vives to be recognized with “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia” career award
Gente de Zona, Gerardo Ortiz, Maluma, Prince Royce, Thalía, and Yandel set to perform on TV’s longest-running Latin music awards show on Thursday, February 18th at 7 p.m. ET/PT (6 p.m. Central)
MIAMI, FL – JANUARY 26, 2016 – Univision Network announces the first set of confirmed musical artists who will light up the stage for the 28th edition of “Premio Lo Nuestro” (PLN), the longest-running, most popular celebration of Latin music in the U.S. PLN 2016 will air on the Univision Network LIVE from the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, FL on Thursday, February 18th, 2016, at 7 p.m. ET/PT (6 p.m. Central).
One of the most coveted awards in Latin music, PLN recognizes the wide range of styles and features performances by the hottest, most popular artists of every genre. The first set of confirmed performers includes: Tropical urban group Gente de Zona, nominated under the Tropical category for Group or Duo of the Year and Video of the Year; Regional Mexican artist Gerardo Ortiz, who is nominated in four categories: Regional Mexican Song of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Norteño Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year in the general category; Tropical sensation Prince Royce, nominated in the Tropical music category for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Artist of the Year; all time pop/rock singer Thalía, nominated for Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year in the pop/rock category; popular urban reggaeton artist Yandel, who is nominated for Artist of the Year in the urban music category; and urban reggaeton singer Maluma, performing his latest hit.
As part of the night’s recognitions, PLN will honor Colombian singer and composer Carlos Vives with “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia” for his extraordinary music career and contributions made through the years to Latin music. Vives, winner of five PLN awards, is also nominated this year under the Video of the Year category for his song “Tierra del olvido.”
“Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” recognizes and celebrates the top artists in the U.S. Latin music industry. The winners for the longest-running and most popular award show honoring Latin music among U.S. Hispanics are chosen by popular vote by music fans, making it ‘the people’s award’ (el premio de todos). The list of nominees for the 28th edition of the award show is based on data provided by Mediabase, Big Champagne and Buzz Angle Music. Nominations are based on the Top 500 Latin songs during the eligibility period (Sept. 1, 2014 to Aug. 30, 2015). Fans were able to vote for their favorites from Dec. 1 until Dec. 20, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. ET on PremioLoNuestro.com. All winners will be announced on the night of this year’s ceremony.
“Premio Lo Nuestro” starts at 7 p.m. ET/PT (6 p.m. Central) with “Noche de Estrellas” (Night of Stars), a live pre-show special that gives fans a first peek at the talent arrivals for a glamorous and special night.

MIAMI, FL – 26 DE ENERO DE 2016 – La Cadena Univision anuncia el primer grupo de músicos que están confirmados para hacer arder el escenario durante la 28va edición de “Premio Lo Nuestro” (PLN), la celebración más popular y de más larga trayectoria de la música latina en los Estados Unidos. PLN 2016 se trasmitirá en la Cadena Univision EN VIVO desde AmericanAirlines Arena en Miami, FL el jueves, 18 de febrero de 2016, a las 7 p.m. Este/Pacífico (6 p.m. Centro).
PLN, uno de los premios más codiciados a la música latina, reconoce una gran variedad de estilos y presenta actos por los artistas más populares en cada género. El primer grupo de artistas confirmados incluye al grupo de música tropical urbana Gente de Zona, quienes están nominados en la categoría tropical a Grupo o Duo del Año y Video del Año; al cantante de música regional mexicana Gerardo Ortiz, quien ha sido nominado en cuatro categorías: canción del año de música regional mexicana, artista masculino del año, artista norteño del año y álbum del año en la categoría general; la sensación tropical Prince Royce, nominado bajo la categoría de música tropical para álbum del año, canción del año, artista masculino del año y artista del año; la insuperable cantante de pop/rock Thalía, candidata al premio al álbum del año y la artista femenina del año en la categoría de pop/rock; el popular artista de reggaetón urbano Yandel, quien ha sido nominado a artista del año en la categoría de música urbana, y el cantante de reggaetón urbano Maluma, quien presentará su más reciente éxito.
Como parte de los reconocimientos de la velada, PLN homenajeará al cantautor colombiano Carlos Vives con el “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia” por su extraordinaria carrera musical y los aportes que ha hecho por años a la música latina. Vives, ganador de cinco PLN, también es candidato este año bajo la categoría de video del año por su canción “Tierra del olvido”.
El “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” reconoce y celebra a los principales artistas de la música latina en los Estados Unidos. Se selecciona por voto popular de los fans de la música a los ganadores de la ceremonia de premiación más popular y de más larga trayectoria dedicada a la música latina que escuchan los hispanos en los Estados Unidos, lo que lo hace el premio de todos. La lista de artistas nominados para la 28va edición de la ceremonia de premiación se basa en datos proporcionados por Mediabase, Big Champagne y Buzz Angle Music. Las nominaciones se basan en las 500 canciones latinas más populares durante el periodo de calificación (1 de septiembre de 2014 al 30 de agosto de 2015). Los fans pudieron votar por sus preferidos en PremioLoNuestro.com del 1 de diciembre hasta las 11:59 Este p.m del 20 de diciembre de 2015. Todos los ganadores serán anunciados la noche de la ceremonia de este año.
