CHICAGO – DECEMBER 3, 2015 – Univision Chicago today announced a partnership with DePaul University to launch “La Hora Picante”, a one-hour radio program on Univision America, Univision’s full service radio format. The show will air on WRTO 1200AM in Chicago on Saturdays at 8:00 a.m.

The pilot program is a first of its kind and will incorporate WGBO-TV’s local news gathering operation to provide guidance to student broadcasters as they explore a wide variety of topical news stories and current events from the perspectives of bilingual millennial hosts. The program will be piloted by Radio DePaul and will air from their Lincoln Park studios. “La Hora Picante” will be hosted by students Samantha Rivera, Alondra Valle and Giovanni Hernandez in both English and Spanish-language.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Radio DePaul on this project because it provides a platform for young bilingual Hispanic journalists to have a voice on the Chicago airwaves,” said Doug Levy, senior vice president and general manager, Univision Chicago. “We look forward to watching these ‘billennials’ develop their skills and share their perspective with our community.”

Salma Ghanem, PhD., professor and dean for the College of Communication at DePaul University noted, “Being able to have access to the airwaves in the number three radio market in America is a unique opportunity for our students and DePaul University. We are excited to be a part of this innovative opportunity for our students.”
