Univision Deportes Reaches 8.7 Million Viewers with Most-viewed Soccer Match Since 2013 During 2015 Confederation Cup Playoff Match, Out-delivering the MLB Playoffs

Univision Stations Outperformed ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX Stations Combined in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento in Key Demos


NEW YORK – OCTOBER 12, 2015 – Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) that also includes UDN, the No. 1 Spanish-language sports network, delivered impressive ratings for soccer action on Saturday night with the USA versus Mexico 2015 Confederation Cup playoff match. The match aired Saturday at 9:00pm ET on Univision Network with a simulcast on UDN (Univision Deportes Network).

The USA vs. Mexico match averaged 5.1 million Total Viewers 2+ and 2.7 million Adults 18-49 and reached 8.7 million Total Viewers 2+. Additionally:

  • USA vs. Mexico was the most-viewed soccer match on any network in over 2 years regardless of language (excluding tournaments) since the March 26, 2013 World Cup Qualifier between USA and Mexico on UniMás.
  • The audience was larger than the viewership for Game 1 of the MLB American League Division Series between the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals on Fox Sports 1 on October 8th among all key demographics.
  • Viewership was more than 4 times larger than the opening game of the NHL season between the New York Rangers and the Chicago Blackhawks on NBC Sports Network on October 7th among all key demographics.

The USA vs. Mexico Confederation Cup Playoff match was the No. 1 program of the day on Saturday, outperforming MLB Postseason Playoffs and College Football among:

  • Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, Houston, and Phoenix
  • Adults 18-49 and young Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix

The USA vs. Mexico Confederation Cup Playoff match out-scored the MLB Postseason NLDS game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets on TBS among:

  • Total Viewers 2+  and Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, and Phoenix
  • Young Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco and Phoenix
