Leopoldo Gómez

President of News

Leopoldo Gómez González is President of News at TelevisaUnivision, the world’s leading Spanish-language media and content company. In this role, he leads N+ Univision, TelevisaUnivision’s U.S. news division, which informs and connects with Hispanic audiences across the country through television, streaming, radio and digital platforms.

Gómez González returned to TelevisaUnivision in 2026 to lead its U.S. news division after two years as an international consultant, during which he served, among other roles, as a senior adviser for Latin America at FTI Consulting. With more than 25 years of leadership experience in media and news organizations, he previously led Univision News from 2021 to 2023 and, before that, served as Vice President of News at Grupo Televisa from 2000 to 2021.

Throughout his career in media and journalism, Gómez González has held a range of editorial and production roles. He was a columnist for the Mexican newspaper Milenio, host of the political analysis and debate program Tercer Grado, and executive producer of the series Un Extraño Enemigo, produced by Televisa for Amazon Prime.

Gómez González holds a law degree from Universidad Anáhuac and a doctorate in government from Georgetown University. He also served as undersecretary of energy operations at Mexico’s Ministry of Energy. He has published extensively on politics and communication in academic and specialized publications, including Journal of International Affairs, Foro Internacional, Nexos and Política y Gobierno, published by the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE). He has also taught at Georgetown University, Brown University and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).

Gómez González is a two-time recipient of the Premio Nacional de Periodismo: in 2004 for the series México: la historia de su democracia and in 2006 for Tercer Grado. He has also twice received the Premio Ondas Iberoamericano de Radio y Televisión: in 2004 for México: la historia de su democracia and in 2012 for the 13-episode historical series El Encanto del Águila, which also received the Premio Internacional Rey de España de Periodismo that same year.
