Executive Leadership

José Luis Fabila

Chief Content Officer

Jose Luis Fabila is Chief Content Officer at TelevisaUnivision, the world’s leading Spanish-language media company. In this role, he drives the company’s global content strategy, overseeing content development, marketing, programming, and distribution across TelevisaUnivision’s flagship networks in Mexico and the U.S., as well as its digital and streaming platforms, including its global streaming service, ViX.

With over two decades at the company, Fabila has been instrumental in cementing TelevisaUnivision’s position as the world’s largest producer of Spanish-language content. As the company’s first-ever Chief Content Officer, he is focused on expanding audience reach and maximizing commercial potential across all distribution channels.

Before assuming this role in December 2024, Fabila served as Vice President of Programming, Marketing, and Research at TelevisaUnivision Mexico (February 2021 – November 2024). During this time, he played a key role in transforming the content organization following the 2022 merger of Univision and Televisa, leading the integration of content production between the U.S. and Mexico. He designed a comprehensive production pipeline for scripted and unscripted content, ensuring seamless collaboration across both regions. Additionally, he was integral in aligning sales, production, and programming, a strategy that further solidified the company’s leadership in content creation, audience engagement, and commercialization in Mexico.

During this period, Fabila was instrumental in the formation of Alianza para la Calidad de la Medición Multimedia A.C. (ACAM), Mexico’s Joint Industry Committee (JIC) for audience measurement. This groundbreaking initiative revolutionized audience measurement governance, allowing the media industry to take ownership of audience data and gain the autonomy to develop and evolve its own measurement standards.

From November 2018 to January 2021, Fabila served as Vice President of Programming and Research at Grupo Televisa, where he restored its leadership in Mexican primetime television. He effectively optimized third-party content inventory, significantly reducing content acquisition costs by half while securing meaningful discounts from major distributors. He also automated audience analytics reports and led the creation of a content insights research division, enabling more precise, data-driven decisions to be made for both scripted and unscripted programming. Additionally, he refined the supply-demand matching model, improving coordination between sales, inventory management, and programming, enhancing strategic content planning across the network.

Prior to that, Fabila was General Director of Content Strategy from October 2010 to October 2018, where he designed and implemented BLINDA, a quality control process for telenovelas, which helped reduce the number of unsuccessful productions and stabilized performance of flagship programming across all time periods.

Early in his career, Fabila got his start in various roles in Seguros Comercial América, ING Comercial América and as consultant in the Insurance sector.

Fabila holds a Bachelor’s degree of Actuarial Science from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
