NEW YORK – APRIL 23, 2018 – Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced that Francisca Lachapel, co-host of Univision’s iconic morning program “Despierta América” (Wake Up, America), and Brea Frank, one of the Dominican Republic’s most popular celebrity DJ, TV host and influencer, join forces on the new midday radio program “La Bella & El Duro” (The Beauty and the Tough Guy). The celebrity power duo will meld their unique styles to co-host the music intensive midday show, bringing area listeners a fresh take on music, pop culture and entertainment from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Monday, April 30 on La X 96.3 FM.
The show will have a big-city sensibility, with the latest in music and entertainment and all the hits preferred by New Yorkers’ lively and diverse audience, ranging from genre classics by icons such as Daddy Yankee to the latest up-and-comers shifting and taking over the charts from the U.S., the Caribbean and beyond. Interactive in style, listeners will have multiple opportunities to join the conversation as Lachapel and Frank engage audiences in real time via social media.
“Francisca and Brea each personify the American Dream; embodying the focus, hard work and dedication that many Latinos in this country inevitably represent. ‘La Bella & El Duro’ will include these aspirational themes as concepts seamlessly woven into the show as a common thread in the lives of the Latino community in New York,” said Jesus Lara, president of Radio at UCI. “We recognize the organic connection Francisca and Brea bring to the Latino community in the city, and look forward to giving this double act a platform to entertain and inspire, shaking the mold, and delivering the content our audience craves.”
Lachapel moved to the U.S. at the age of 20 with dreams of becoming an actress. Her big break came in 2015 when she won Univision’s hit reality and talent competition show “Nuestra Belleza Latina” (Our Latin Beauty). That triumph led to her most recent success; she is and will continue to co-host on Univision’s “Despierta América” and she also just published a book, titled “UNA REINA COMO TÚ” (A Queen Like You), in which she reflects on the challenges and triumphs she has experienced during her journey from poverty in the Dominican Republic to media stardom and fame in the U.S.
Lachapel’s co-host, the charismatic, stylish and entrepreneurial Brea Frank, is known as “La voz del pueblo” (The Voice of the People) in the Dominican Republic; a towering figure on the island’s airwaves as both DJ and TV host. Some of his trademark phrases, including “¡Qué barrial!”, have entered the Dominican idiom. Frank maintains a heavy social media presence and runs a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young people.
