Univision, through its Fusion Media Group division, has become one of the largest digital media companies in the US.
In just three years, with a mix of acquisitions and organic launches, including The Root, The Onion, and the Gizmodo sites, Univision Communications Inc. has incubated and grown what is currently the largest digital media group in the U.S., regardless of language, a digital media group that reaches over 100 million monthly uniques, more than VICE, Buzzfeed, and Vox.
On Univision’s Q3’17 earnings call, Randy Falco, president, and CEO of the Company highlighted the success of the group and how it contributes to the existing business.
Referencing the 360-degree monetization model built around leading digital media brands, such as The Onion, Deadspin, Jezebel, A.V. Club, Jalopnik, and The Root, among others. The audience is young and has more 18 to 34 uniques with household incomes of US$100,000+ than any of its competitors.
Having undergone a successful integration of all the acquired and incubated assets, Univision now believes it has created significant value for this new group, and it’s looking to spin it off and raise outside capital to continue fueling growth.
