Univision Brings Flama Online Network to Hulu

By Natalie Jarvey

Univision Communications has signed a deal to bring original content from over-the-top network Flama to Hulu.

As part of the deal, Flama will make new episodes of original series Saving Lives available on the streamer at the same time they become available on Flama.com. Saving Lives, a comedy web series, stars Josh Leyva and David Alvarez as two college buddies who continue to work their old lifeguard shifts at the local beach, where they spend more time joking around than saving lives. The six-episode series premiered Jan. 22.

In addition, episodes of Flama series including Taking on America, Drop the Mic with Becky G and The Bodega are now available to stream on Hulu. In total, Flama will distribute five series on the platform.

“From Univision joining Hulu in 2012 as the anchor network for its first Spanish offering to now working with them to launch English-language Flama originals, this newest venture is a perfect partnership,” said Flama general manager Steven Benanav.

Univision launched Flama as a YouTube channel in partnership with Bedrocket Media Ventures in December 2013 and expanded it into an OTT network in April last year. The network is aimed at young Latino audiences and includes bilingual content.
