Univision Communications Inc. Commends the Senate Judiciary Committee on Passing the Music Modernization Act

Jun 28, 2018

This morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Music Modernization Act (MMA) by unanimous voice vote. Univision Communications Inc. commends the Committee on passing the MMA and thanks Chairman Charles Grassley, Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein, and Senators Orrin Hatch, Sheldon Whitehouse, and other co-sponsors for their leadership on this legislation.

Among other things, the MMA includes language that will formally establish a role for Congress as the Department of Justice reviews consent decrees with the two largest performing rights organizations — ASCAP and BMI — which collectively license over 90% of the musical works that are played on local radio and television stations. Univision supports this legislation and its approach to promoting a balanced and fair music marketplace.
