SAN JOSE, CA, NOVEMBER 5, 2018 –Univision, the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced that the professional staff of Univision Bay Area, Univision Sacramento and Univision Fresno will be awarded with the prestigious 2018 Excellence in Journalism Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.
During the NorCal’s 33rd Excellence in Journalism Awards dinner in San Francisco, Univision Bay Area, Univision Sacramento and Univision Fresno staff will be honored for an outstanding special episode of Tu Gente, Tu Voz, featuring an array of inspiring community stories. Luis Godinez, Luz Peña and Joe Perry from Noticias Univision 14 in San Francisco Bay Area will also receive the Technology Reporting (TV/Video) award for Código Imborrable, a special story about inmates at San Quintin Prison who are learning how to code.
“These awards are great recognition to the dedication of our newsrooms in the Bay Area and Northern California. The awarded stories give voice to our community and share their examples of courage and hard work,” said Carolina Nuñez, vice president and regional news director of Univision.

Durante la 33a cena de Premios a la Excelencia al Periodismo del Norte California en San Francisco, el equipo de Univision del Área de la Bahía, Univision Sacramento y Univision Fresno recibirán reconocimiento por un sobresalienteepisodio especial de Tu Gente, Tu Voz, con una variedad de historias inspiradoras sobre la comunidad. Luis Godínez, Luz Peña y Joe Perry de Noticias Univision 14 en el área de la bahía de San Francisco recibirán el premio a reportajes de tecnología (TV/Video) por Código Imborrable, un segmento especial sobre los reos en la prisión de San Quintín que están aprendiendo a programar.
