Univision Deportes Scores “Golazo” with Telecasts of MLS Season Opener and Liga MX Súper Clásico

Major League Soccer 2018 Season Opener Houston vs. Atlanta Delivers 469,000 Total Viewers 2+ and 261,000 Adults 18-49

Liga MX Clausura 2018 América vs. Guadalajara Delivers 2.5 Million Total Viewers 2+ and 1.4 Million Adults 18-49

NEW YORK – MARCH 7, 2018 – Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of Univision Communications Inc (UCI) and the home of soccer in America, struck a huge “golazo” with its March 3rd telecasts of the MLS 2018 season kick-off Houston Dynamo vs. Atlanta United at 3:30 p.m. ET, and the Liga MX América vs. Guadalajara Súper Clásico at 10 p.m. ET.

The MLS season kick-off between Houston Dynamo and Atlanta United, available on the Univision Network and UDN (Univision Deportes Network), delivered 469,000 Total Viewers 2+ and 261,000 Adults 18-49. The match outperformed the MLS LA Galaxy vs. Portland Timbers FOX Sports 1 telecast, which drew 127,000 Adults 18-49 on March 4. Additionally, 35% of the MLS Houston vs. Atlanta telecast audience were non-Hispanics, far above the norm for an exclusive MLS soccer telecast by Univision Deportes via the Univision Network.

Also on Saturday, the high-stakes matchup between América and Guadalajara delivered 2.5 million Total Viewers 2+ and 1.4 million Adults 18-49 on the Univision Network, with simulcast on UDN, and was the top-rated soccer event on any network year-to-date, regardless of language. The Liga MX Súper Clásico bested ABC’s broadcast of the Boston vs. Houston NBA matchup on Saturday night, attracting +3% Adult 18-49 viewers. The widely-viewed fútbol rivalry matchup saw Las Chivas’ playoff chances fade, and positioned the undefeated Águilas del América in the No. 2 slot, just two points away from unseating the current No. 1 slot occupant, Club Santos Laguna.

Airing of Súper Clásico made Univision the No. 1 broadcast station during the time period (10pm-12am ET, live across time zones) among:

  • Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles.
  • Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, and Phoenix.
  • Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix.

Súper Clásico was the No. 1 broadcast program of the day among:

  • Total Viewers 2+ and Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles.
  • Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston, and Dallas.

Airing of Súper Clásico outperformed ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX affiliates combined during the time period among:

  • Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles.
  • Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles and Dallas.

The Liga MX Clausura 2018 Súper Clásico grew its audience versus the Liga MX Clausura 2017 Súper Clásico among:

  • Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, and San Francisco.
  • Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas, and San Francisco.
  • Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, and San Francisco.

Digital and Social Highlights

The América vs. Guadalajara Súper Clásico generated over 777,000 video views and 13 million total page views via UnivisionDeportes.com, which represents a +8% and +26% increase, respectively, from the last tournament. The soccer match also generated over 55,000 Livestreams (+23% from the last tournament) from 27,500 Users who additionally consumed over 26,600 Live Clips (video-on-demand) from the match.

On the social media front, this Súper Clásico was the most-watched social program from a Hispanic audience during Primetime that generated over 406,000 total interactions, of which 93% were generated from Facebook.
