Nominees Across 15 Categories Include Soccer Superstars Javier “Chicharito” Hernández and David Villa, Top Boxer Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and MLB’s José Altuve
Lifetime Achievement Award to be Presented to Oscar de la Hoya
MIAMI, FL –DECEMBER 11, 2017– Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) that includes UDN, the No. 1 Spanish-language sports network, will honor top athletes and teams with presentation of its fourth annual “Premios Univision Deportes” (Univision Deportes Awards). The two-hour live event on December 17 will feature some of the biggest names in sports and Latin music.
Great athletes and teams from a variety of sports and around the world have been nominated across 15 categories that honor athletes’ hard work, dedication and passion. Nominees include soccer players Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, Oribe Peralta and David Villa. Panama’s national team, on the tail of their first-time World Cup qualification, is nominated for “Breakthrough of the Year” along with Mexican soccer Club, Chivas de Guadalajara.
Receiving the night’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” is former professional boxer and businessman Oscar De La Hoya, in recognition for his athletic accomplishments. Additional standout performers who will be honored at “Premios Univision Deportes” are Javier “Chicharito” Hernández receiving the “Mexican National Top Team Goal Scorer” award; and this year’s recipients of the “Humanitarian Award,” Venezuelan baseball players Freddy Galvis, Rougned Odor, Jhoulys Chacín and Carlos González, who through their financial efforts helped the Venezuelan youth national team to participate in the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania.
Contenders for “Boxer of the Year” include Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez and Leo Santa Cruz. Among the nominees for “Female Athlete of the Year” are world racquetball champion Paola Longoria of Mexico and Puerto Rican boxer Amanda Serrano.
The night will begin with a red-carpet arrivals event at 7 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. CT, followed by the main event at 8 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. CT on Sunday, December 17, on the Univision Network with simulcast on UDN (Univision Deportes Network). Fans can also access exclusive coverage of the awards on the Univision Deportes app, and Univisiondeportes.com throughout the night as well as streamed on Univision Now, the on demand and live video service.
Awards will be presented to 15 winners for their passion, athletic excellence and their use of sports as an agent for social change. Categories and special recognition awards are:

El Premio a la Trayectoria Deportiva se Otorgará a Óscar de la Hoya
MIAMI, FL –11 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2017– Univision Deportes, la división de deportes en medios múltiples de Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) que también incluye UDN, la cadena número uno de deportes en español, se prepara para rendir homenaje a destacados deportistas y equipos en la cuarta edición “Premios Univision Deportes”. El evento que se transmitirá por más de dos horas, completamente en vivo el 17 de diciembre, incluirá a algunas de las más populares celebridades de los deportes y la música latina.
Se han nominado a grandes deportistas y equipos de diferentes disciplinas, en 15 categorías para que reciban reconocimiento por su trabajo arduo, dedicación y pasión. Entre los nominados están los futbolistas Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, Oribe Peralta y David Villa. La Selección Nacional de Panamá, tras clasificarse por primera vez para la Copa Mundial, ha sido nominada para “Revelación del Año”, además del club de fútbol mexicano Chivas de Guadalajara.
Recibirá el “Premio a la Trayectoria Deportiva” el ex boxeador y empresario Óscar de la Hoya, como reconocimiento de sus logros en los deportes. Entre otros que recibirán “Premios Univision Deportes” por su gran desempeño están Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, a quien se otorgará el premio al “Goleador de la Selección Nacional de México del Año”, y los ganadores del “Reconocimiento a la Labor Humanitaria” de este año, son los beisbolistas venezolanos Freddy Galvis, Rougned Odor, Jhoulys Chacín y Carlos González, por sus esfuerzos para apoyar económicamente al equipo juvenil nacional de Venezuela, quienes gracias a su aporte monetario lograron participar la Little League World Series en Pensilvania.
En el ámbito del boxeo, los candidatos a “Boxeador del Año” incluyen a Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez y Leo Santa Cruz. Entre los nominados a “Atleta Femenina del Año” están la campeona mundial de ráquetbol Paola Longoria de México y la boxeadora puertorriqueña Amanda Serrano.
La noche empezará con un Alfombra Roja a las 7 p.m. Este/ 6 p.m. Centro, seguido por el evento principal a las 8 p.m. Este/ 7 p.m. Centro el domingo, 17 de diciembre por la Cadena Univision, con trasmisión simultánea por UDN (Univision Deportes Network).
