Latin GRAMMY award-winning singer, songwriter Erika Ender, co-author of ‘Despacito’ talks to Nuria Net, senior editor, Uforia Music in the Miami studios. Ender has been in the business for 25 years and is the youngest person to be inducted into the Latin Songwriter Hall of Fame. Ender talks about the creative process of writing ‘Despacito’ and how she pushed Fonsi out of his comfort zone.
‘Despacito’ has not only broken all types of streaming and charting records, but also the song has the distinction of breaking gender records. Ender is the only Latina with a #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a song in Spanish. As one of the few working women in the music industry, she does not take her role or her current success lightly and she talks about this significance. She has written songs for artists such as Chayanne, Gloria Trevi and Los Tigres del Norte.
On the U-LAB podcast, Ender also talks to Net about several topics including female songwriters in the music industry, her take on whether Justin Bieber is appropriating Latin culture and what’s next for Latin music after the ‘Despacito’ phenomenon.
