MLS Eastern Conference Champion Toronto F.C. is set to host Western Conference winner Seattle Sounders F.C. at 8:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. PT) on Saturday, December 10
The match will determine the best in MLS, the U.S. and Canada’s pro soccer league
WHAT: As part of its ongoing commitment to providing the best soccer action from across the Americas, the Univision Deportes team of experts is heading north to bring viewers the 2016 MLS Cup, live from BMO Field in Toronto. The one-game, winner-take all match will be broadcast LIVE on UDN and UniMás on Saturday, December 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. PT).
The Seattle Sounders FC, under the direction of first-year head coach Brian Schmetzer and led on-field by U.S. national team rising star Jordan Morris and Uruguayan National team veteran Nicolas Lodeiro earned their first-ever spot in the final by defeating their Western Conference rival Colorado Rapids.
Fellow MLS Cup newcomer Toronto F.C. roared through the post-season under the leadership of U.S national team captain Michael Bradley and striker Jozy Altidore, who scored in five consecutive post-season games. The Reds, coached by Greg Vanney, reached the final by defeating Canadian rival Montreal Impact in an extra-time nail-biter.
Univision Deportes is the league’s long-term partner for Spanish-language broadcasts of MLS games in the U.S., during the regular season and playoffs.
Pre-game coverage will begin with “La Barra MLS” one-hour prior to the match. The match will feature play-by-play commentary as well as analysis by the network’s expert team of sportscasters, including Raúl Guzmán, Marcelo Balboa, Ramsés Sandoval and former Seattle Sounders FC player Gonzalo Pineda.
Major League Soccer is the top men’s professional league in the U.S. and Canada. Since its founding in 1996, it has grown to include 17 teams in the U.S. and three in Canada, and a total of 22 teams beginning with the 2017 season. Its popularity reflects the increasing interest of North American audiences in the game, which has reached such intensity that tickets for Saturday’s final match were sold out within three minutes of going on sale to the general public.
