FULLERTON, CA – NOVEMBER 9, 2016 — The College of Communications at California State University, Fullerton and Univision Los Angeles have partnered to create an on-campus news bureau to serve the Orange County and Inland Empire Hispanic community.
The new alliance connects Univision with its young and bilingual audience and provides CSUF students with mentors, internship opportunities and access to high-impact educational experiences with seasoned bilingual journalists in both broadcast and digital news production. Reporter and anchor Francisco Ugalde, who has more than 20 years of journalistic experience, will be based at the Cal State Fullerton Univision Bureau in Pollak Library and cover Orange and San Bernardino counties.
The unique partnership between industry and education is a continuation of efforts by CSUF’s Latino Communications Initiative to boost students’ career development in the competitive multicultural media job market, said Scott Paynton, dean of the College of Communications.
Students will have the opportunity to visit Univision’s Los Angeles newsroom to see real-world media professionals in action, and learn from the company’s reporters who will serve as expert lecturers. Univision also will offer internship opportunities to advanced broadcast journalism students and provide access to Univision’s news feed for CSUF’s student news programs “OC News” and “Al Día.”
“Direct contact between students and reporters will enhance both the educational and working lives of those in the field of journalism,” Paynton said.
The partnership also will allow the University to share campus presentations by Latin American leaders, Hispanic academics, policy makers, artists, journalists and visiting scholars with local Univision viewers.

CAL STATE FULLERTON Y UNIVISION LOS ANGELES CREAN OFICINA DE NOTICIAS EN EL CAMPUS UNIVERSITARIO
FULLERTON, CA, 9 DE NOVIEMBRE DE 2016 – La Facultad de Comunicaciones de California State University, Fullerton y Univision Los Ángeles se han asociado para crear una oficina de noticias en el campus que servirá a las comunidades hispanas del condado de Orange y la región del Inland Empire.
La nueva alianza conecta a Univision con su público joven y bilingüe, a la vez que provee a los estudiantes de la universidad mentores, pasantías y experiencias educativas de alto impacto con periodistas bilingües, tanto en producción de noticias de televisión y radio como en digitales. El reportero y presentador Francisco Ugalde, que tiene más de 20 años de experiencia periodística, está basado en el Cal State Fullerton Univision Bureau en la biblioteca Pollak, y cubre los condados de Orange y San Bernardino.
Esta asociación única entre la industria y la educación es una continuación de los esfuerzos de la Iniciativa de Comunicación Latina de Cal State Fullerton para impulsar el desarrollo profesional de los estudiantes en el mercado laboral de medios multiculturales, dijo Scott Paynton, decano de la Facultad de Comunicaciones.
Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de visitar la sala de prensa de Univision en Los Ángeles para ver en acción a los profesionales de los medios de comunicación, y de aprender de reporteros que servirán de instructores. Univision también ofrecerá oportunidades de pasantías a estudiantes avanzados de periodismo de televisión y radio, a la vez que brinda acceso a la fuente de noticias de Univision para los programas estudiantiles “OC News” y “Al Día” de Cal State Fullerton.
“El contacto directo entre estudiantes y reporteros mejorará tanto la vida educativa como laboral de aquellos que trabajan en el campo del periodismo”, dijo Paynton.
La alianza también permite que la Universidad comparta presentaciones de líderes latinoamericanos, académicos hispanos, políticos, artistas, periodistas y académicos visitantes con telespectadores locales de Univision.
