MIAMI – MAY 24, 2016 – Univision News, the award-winning news division of Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, has announced the promotion of two highly valued members of its Newsroom: María Martínez-Guzmán and Gabriela Tristán. Martínez-Guzmán will now hold the title of vice president and executive producer, News Gathering; Tristán will be vice president and executive producer, News Production. From their new positions, Martínez-Guzmán and Tristán will work collaboratively to continue to deliver and maintain the journalistic excellence that Hispanic America has come to expect from Univision News programming. They will both report to Patsy Loris, senior vice president and senior news director for UCI.
Martínez-Guzmán will supervise and assign daily stories for all newscasts; plan and coordinate exclusive interviews, series and special news coverage; and manage correspondents and assignment editors.
Tristán will oversee daily production and broadcast of all newscasts; plan and organize special coverage of events and breaking news; and manage Univision News anchors, producers, and writers. She will also be the point person for other UCI departments with specific requests and news-related production needs.

Martínez-Guzmán most recently served as managing editor of Network News and before that, national and international assignment editor, Univision News. She was part of the team responsible for launching “Al Punto,” Spanish-language television’s first Sunday morning political and public affairs show, where she coordinated and produced high profile interviews with world presidents, U.S. political figures, writers, civic leaders and sports personalities. Additionally, she has also field-produced major national and international news events throughout her career. Prior to joining Univision News in 2002, Martínez-Guzmán was news director at KNVO Univision 48, Entravision’s affiliate television station in McAllen, Texas, where she managed the day-to-day operations of the newsroom. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with a minor in Broadcasting, from Florida International University.
Tristán joined the Univision News family as an intern in 1993 and has since held several production positions, beginning as producer of the news segment for Univision Network’s morning show “Despierta América” and subsequently for Network News. After moving up to general producer for “Al Punto,” she was promoted to executive producer in 2012. Her most recent title was executive producer, Univision Network News. She is a graduate of Florida International University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism.

MIAMI – 24 DE MAYO DE 2016 – Univision Noticias, la galardonada división de noticias de Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), la principal empresa de medios de comunicación al servicio de la comunidad hispana en los Estados Unidos, anuncia la promoción de dos valoradas profesionales de su sala de redacción: María Martínez-Guzmán y Gabriela Tristán. Martínez-Guzmán ostentará el título de vicepresidenta y productora ejecutiva, Recopilación de Noticias; Tristán ocupará el cargo de vicepresidenta y productora ejecutiva, Producción de Noticias. Desde sus nuevos puestos, Martínez-Guzmán y Tristán trabajarán en conjunto para continuar logrando y manteniendo la excelencia periodística que la audiencia hispana de Estados Unidos ha llegado a esperar de la programación de Univision Noticias. Ambas se reportarán a Patsy Loris, vicepresidenta principal de Noticias y directora principal de noticias para UCI.
Martínez-Guzmán dirigirá y asignará los trabajos periodísticos diarios para todos los noticieros; planificará y coordinará entrevistas exclusivas, series y cobertura noticiosa especial; y tendrá bajo su cargo a los corresponsales y editores de asignaciones.
Tristán supervisará la producción y transmisión diarias de todos los noticieros; planificará y organizará la cobertura especial de sucesos y noticias de última hora; y tendrá bajo su cargo a los presentadores, productores y redactores de Univision Noticias. También será el contacto para otros departamentos de UCI que tengan solicitudes específicas y necesidades de producción relacionadas con noticias.

Martínez-Guzmán era editora gerente de noticias nacionales y antes de eso, fue editora de asignaciones nacionales e internacionales para Univision Noticias. Formó parte del equipo encargado de lanzar “Al Punto”, el primer programa dominical de actualidad y política de la televisión en español, para el cual coordinó y produjo entrevistas de alto perfil con jefes de estado mundiales, figuras políticas de Estados Unidos, escritores, líderes cívicos y celebridades del deporte. Adicionalmente, a lo largo de su carrera ha realizado numerosas producciones in situ sobre importantes sucesos nacionales e internacionales. Antes de incorporarse a Univision Noticias en 2002, Martínez-Guzmán fue directora de noticias de KNVO Univision 48, la estación afiliada de Entravision en McAllen, Texas, donde dirigió las operaciones cotidianas de la sala de redacción. Tiene una licenciatura, Bachelor of Arts, en Ciencias Políticas, con un grado menor en Teledifusión, de la Universidad Internacional de la Florida.
Tristán se incorporó a la familia Univision como pasante en 1993 y desde entonces ha desempeñado varias funciones en el área de producción, comenzando como productora del segmento de noticias del programa “Despierta América” de la cadena Univision y luego productora de Noticias Nacionales. Tras ascender a Productora General de “Al Punto”, fue promovida a productora ejecutiva en 2012. Su título más reciente fue el de productora ejecutiva de noticias de la cadena Univision. Es egresada de la Universidad Internacional de la Florida, donde recibió una licenciatura, Bachelor of Science, en Periodismo Televisivo.
