Medialife: Univision Soars with ‘Pasión y Poder’ Finale

A pair of specials boosted Spanish-language networks Univision and Telemundo on Thursday night. The three-hour series finale of Univision’s telenovela “Pasión y Poder” helped the network posted a 1.0 rating among viewers 18-49 for the night, according to Nielsen overnights, up 43 percent from a 0.7 last Thursday and good for third place for the night behind CBS and ABC.

Univision also finished first in the 10 p.m. hour with a 1.1 for the final hour of “Pasión y Poder,” edging out ABC and Telemundo’s 1.0 in the timeslot. Meanwhile, Telemundo posted a 0.9 rating for the night with its coverage of the Billboard Latin Music Awards, up 50 percent from a 0.6 last week.

It also finished fourth among the broadcast networks for the night at a 0.9/4 in the demo, edging out sibling network NBC’s 0.9/3. Meanwhile, an original episode of CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” was the top show of the night among 18-49s with a 3.3 rating at 8 p.m., helping the network finish first for the night with a 1.7 average overnight rating and a 6 share. ABC finished second for the night at 1.5/5, followed by Univision with its 1.0/4 and Telemundo with its 0.9/4. NBC was fifth at 0.9/3, Fox sixth at 0.8/3 and CW seventh at 0.6/2.
