Musical Icon Carlos Vives Recognized with “Premio a la Excelencia”; Paquita la del Barrio Receives “Premio a la Trayectoria Musical”
Internationally renowned singer-songwriter Carlos Vives was joined on stage by 14 Colombian artists and soccer icons for a historic musical collaboration to celebrate his award for musical excellence.
MIAMI, FL– FEBRUARY 18, 2016 – Latin music’s mega-stars came together for an unforgettable evening of headlining performances in celebration of the biggest acts in music on the 28th edition of Univision Network’s “Premio Lo Nuestro” (PLN), the longest running and most popular Latin music awards show in the United States.
The highly-anticipated award show opened on a high note with Farruko and Pitbull’s dance tune “Hoy Se Bebe.” Pitbull remained on stage for his catchy, tongue-in-cheek “El Taxi.” It was followed by a show-stopping presentation of his newly released “Bad Man,” which had everyone on their feet. The gravity-defying performance featured singing sensation Robin Thicke and legendary Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry on the stage.
The evening’s top winners included Nicky Jam and Ricky Martin, who each took home three awards. Also among the evening’s most celebrated artists were Julión Álvarez, who received Regional Mexican Song of the Year and Regional Mexican Banda Artist of the Year awards, and J Balvin, who was awarded the Urban Album of the Year for a second year in a row, as well as PLN Artist of the Year. Prince Royce, Luis Coronel and Marc Anthony also won awards in multiple categories.
In one of the evening’s most buzzed-about moments, internationally renowned singer-songwriter Carlos Vives was joined on stage by 14 Colombian artists and soccer icons for a one-of-a-kind historic musical collaboration. After receiving the “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia” award in honor of his illustrious career from former Miss Universe Paulina Vega, Vives performed an epic medley of his top hits “Gota Fría,” “Volví a Nacer,” “Mar de sus Ojos,” and “Pa’ Mayte” alongside Juan Pablo Ángel, J Balvin, Maluma, Jorge Celedón, ChocQuibTown, Silvestre Dangond, Fonseca, Juanes, Faryd Mondragón, Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama and Mario Alberto Yepes.
Mexican Regional singer Paquita la del Barrio was presented with one of the evening’s highest honors, the “Premio a la Trayectoria Musical,” in recognition of a stellar musical career spanning nearly half a century. In a heartfelt performance that included a medley of her hits “Rata de Dos Patas” and “Gracias,” the emotive singer thanked her fans for supporting her every step of the way. Singer Gloria Trevi, who performed her own soulful ballad “El Amor,” presented the beloved artist with the award.
Duo Sin Bandera delighted the audience with a reunion, returning to the stage after an eight-year hiatus to perform their iconic hits “Que Lloro” and “Entra en mi Vida” – selected by their fans via social media – along with a new single, “En Esta No.”
Galilea Montijo and Arath de la Torre hosted the star-studded gala, while William Valdés of Univision’s “Despierta América” (Wake Up America) kept viewers abreast of social media buzz throughout the night.
Audiences were also treated to performances by Gente de Zona and Marc Anthony, who did a salsa version of their hit “Traidora,” as well as by Prince Royce, Chino y Nacho, Chiquis, Jesse & Joy, Luis Coronel, Yandel, Regional Mexican group Banda Los Recoditos, Calibre 50 and Gerardo Ortiz.
CNCO, the band recently formed by the winners of Univision’s La Banda competition, took a break from their world tour alongside Ricky Martin to perform their single “Tan Fácil” for the first time on national television alongside their producer, Wisin.
The PLN celebration began at 7 p.m. ET/PT (6 p.m. Central), as nominees, performers and other celebrities walked down the magenta carpet during the “Noche de Estrellas” (Night of Stars) pre-show, which was hosted by Chiquinquirá Delgado, Raúl de Molina, Tony Dandrades, Daniela di Giacomo and William Valdés.
The annual “Premio Lo Nuestro” award recognizes excellence in four musical categories within the Latin music industry: Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican and Urban. All winners are selected by fans, who cast their votes on PremioLoNuestro.com.
In addition to the live broadcast on the Univision Network and streaming on Univision Now, fans were able to enjoy all the backstage action via PremioLoNuestro.com and Univision Conecta. MIAMI, FL– 18 DE FEBRERO DE 2016 – Las mega estrellas de la música latina se congregaron para una velada inolvidable de presentaciones musicales de primera a fin de celebrar a los más populares músicos durante la 28va edición del “Premio Lo Nuestro” (PLN) de la Cadena Univision, la ceremonia de premiación más popular y de más larga trayectoria de la música latina en los Estados Unidos.
El muy esperado programa de premiación se inició con la gran energía de “Hoy se bebe”, conocida canción bailable de Farruko y Pitbull. Pitbull permaneció en el escenario para entonar “El Taxi”, de melodía pegajosa y letra bromista. La siguió una impresionante presentación de la recién estrenada “Bad Man”, que hizo que todos se pusieran de pie. En un número que desafió la gravedad, el sensacional cantante Robin Thicke y el legendario guitarrista principal de Aerosmith Joe Perry lo acompañaron en el escenario.
Entre los más galardonados de la noche estuvieron Nicky Jam y Ricky Martin, cada uno de los cuales se fue a casa con tres premios. Entre los artistas más celebrados de la velada también estuvieron Julión Álvarez, que recibió los premios a la Canción del Año y Artista de Banda del Año de música regional mexicana, y J Balvin, a quien se premió con Álbum del Año de música urbana por segundo año consecutivo, además de Artista del Año de PLN. Prince Royce, Luis Coronel y Marc Anthony también ganaron premios en múltiples categorías.
En uno de los momentos más comentados de la velada, se sumaron al escenario14 artistas e ídolos del fútbol colombianos al cantautor de renombre internacional Carlos Vives para una colaboración histórica musical única. Tras recibir el “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia” en honor a su ilustre carrera a manos de la ex Miss Universo Paulina Vega, Vives presentó un épico popurrí de sus éxitos, “Gota Fría”, “Volví a Nacer”, “Mar de sus Ojos” y “Pa’ Mayte”, junto con Juan Pablo Ángel, J Balvin, Maluma, Jorge Celedón, ChocQuibTown, Silvestre Dangond, Fonseca, Juanes, Faryd Mondragón, Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama y Mario Alberto Yepes.
La cantante de música regional mexicana Paquita la del Barrio recibió uno de los más altos honores de la premiación, el “Premio a la Trayectoria Musical”, en reconocimiento a su estelar carrera musical de casi medio siglo. En una presentación emotiva que incluyó varios de sus éxitos como “Rata de dos patas” y “Gracias”, Paquita agradeció conmovida a sus fans por apoyarla a lo largo de su carrera. La querida artista recibió el premio de manos de la cantante Gloria Trevi, quien interpretó “El Amor”, su propia balada romántica.
El dúo Sin Bandera deleitó a la audiencia con su retorno al escenario después de ocho años para presentar sus populares temas “Que lloro” y “Entra en mi vida”, seleccionadas por sus fans vía redes sociales, además de un nuevo éxito, “En esta no”.
Galilea Montijo y Arath de la Torre condujeron la ceremonia, que estuvo repleta de estrellas, mientras que William Valdés de “Despierta América” de Univision mantuvo a los televidentes al tanto de los comentarios en redes sociales toda la noche.
También deleitaron al público las actuaciones de Gente de Zona y Marc Anthony, quien presentó una versión de salsa de su éxito “Traidora”, así como Prince Royce, Chino y Nacho, Chiquis, Jesse & Joy, Luis Coronel, Yandel, el grupo de música regional mexicana Banda Los Recoditos, Calibre 50 y Gerardo Ortiz.
CNCO, el grupo musical creado recientemente con los ganadores de la competencia La Banda de Univision, hizo una pausa en su gira mundial junto a Ricky Martin, para presentar su sencillo “Tan fácil”, que debutó en la televisión nacional junto a su productor, Wisín.
La celebración de PLN se inició a las 7 p.m. Este/Pacífico (6 p.m. Centro), cuando los nominados, artistas participantes en el espectáculo y otras estrellas desfilaron por la alfombra magenta durante el programa de antesala “Noche de Estrellas”, conducido por Chiquinquirá Delgado, Raúl de Molina, Tony Dandrades, Daniela di Giacomo y William Valdés.
