Change is in the air in pre-revolutionary Mexico, and mystery, danger and romance converge at the venerable Hotel de Los Secretos as an all-star cast brings the thriller to life

WHAT: “El Hotel de los Secretos” (The Hotel of Secrets), a series that combines mystery, danger and romance with the splendor of early 20th century Mexico as backdrop, is set to premiere on January 25, 2016 on the Univision Network. The series, an adaption of a series from Spain for US Hispanic audience, it’s the first whodunit-style thriller for the Network.
After an unprecedented cross-platform promotional sequence, the new series will take viewers to such spectacular locations in Mexico as picturesque San Miguel de Allende, and back to an exciting time when technological advances were opening up new worlds of possibilities, but social class differences and political ardor threatened the future of everything, including love. All the drama comes to a head at the Hotel de Los Secretos in a remote provincial town.
The series opens with the chance meeting of two strangers on a train. Even though Isabel Alarcon (Irene Azuela) comes from old money and Julio Olmedo (Erick Elías) lacks even a hat to call his own, much less the money to buy a ticket, the sparks fly from the beginning.
They part as abruptly as they met, never expecting to see each other again. Julio continues on foot to the hotel, where he hopes to find his sister Cristina (Elena Herrera). Upon arrival, he learns that she has been fired from her job at the hotel and is nowhere to be found. Sensing foul play, Julio manages to get himself hired as a waiter at the hotel in order to investigate.
Meanwhile, to his surprise, Isabel arrives at the hotel and is revealed to be the daughter of Doña Teresa, family matriarch and owner of the establishment, who is portrayed in a chilling performance by veteran Mexican film and television actress Diana Bracho. Also starring in the series are Daniela Romo and Jorge Poza.
Beneath a veneer of bourgeois respectability, Doña Teresa’s family harbors a plethora of dark secrets. Subsequent episodes tell a sordid story of deceit, family intrigue, ghosts from the past, betrayal and even murder, all centered on the eminently respectable and elegant hotel. As the world seems to fall apart around them, Julio and Isabel must overcome class differences, social mores, family loyalties and their own pasts as they struggle toward the realization of a great love.

“El Hotel de los Secretos” is produced by Televisa veteran Roberto Gómez Fernández, who, incidentally, is the son of beloved Mexican comic Roberto Gómez Bolaños (Chespirito).
The series was adapted by María René Prudencio from the hit series “Gran Hotel,” which aired in Spain from 2011-2013 and subsequently became an international hit, wowing audiences from France to Russia and beyond.
“El Hotel de los Secretos” was filmed on location in Mexico and includes shots at Amecameca’s historic “La Castañeda,” a building which formerly held a notorious revolutionary-era psychiatric hospital.

QUÉ: “El Hotel de los Secretos”, una serie con un trasfondo que combina misterio, peligro y romance con el esplendor de México a principios del siglo XX, se estrenará el 25 de enero de 2016 en la Cadena Univision. La serie es una adaptación de una serie española para la audiencia hispana en los Estados Unidos y la primera obra policiaca de suspenso para la cadena.
Después de una secuencia promocional sin precedente en diversas plataformas, la nueva serie llevará a los televidentes a lugares espectaculares en México como el pintoresco San Miguel de Allende y a tiempos en que los avances tecnológicos abrían nuevos mundos de posibilidades, pero las diferencias de clases sociales y el ardor político amenazaban el futuro de todo, incluido el amor. Todo el drama confluye en el Hotel de Los Secretos de un remoto pueblo de provincia.
La serie se inicia con el encuentro casual de dos desconocidos en un tren. A pesar de que Isabel Alarcón (Irene Azuela) proviene de una familia adinerada y Julio Olmedo (Erick Elías) ni siquiera tiene un sombrero propio, mucho menos el dinero para comprar un boleto, desde un comienzo, hay mucha química entre ellos.
Se despiden tan abruptamente como se conocieron, sin esperanzas de volver a verse. Julio continúa a pie hasta el hotel, donde espera encontrar a su hermana Cristina (Elena Herrera). Tras llegar, se entera de que la han despedido de su trabajo en el hotel y ha desaparecido. Julio intuye que algo anda mal y, para poder investigar, logra que lo contraten como mesero en el hotel.
Mientras tanto, para la sorpresa de este, Isabel llega al hotel y se revela que es la hija de Doña Teresa, la severa matriarca de la familia y propietaria del lugar, quien es interpretada brillantemente por la veterana actriz mexicana de cine y televisión Diana Bracho. También protagonizan la serie Daniela Romo y Jorge Poza.
Detrás de una fachada digna y adinerada, la familia de Doña Teresa esconde abundantes y oscuros secretos. Los episodios posteriores relatan una historia sórdida de engaños, intrigas familiares, fantasmas del pasado, traición e incluso asesinato, todo centrado en el muy respetable y elegante hotel. Mientras el mundo parece derrumbarse a su alrededor, Julio y Isabel deben superar diferencias de clase, prejuicios sociales, lealtades familiares y su propio pasado mientras luchan por su gran amor.
