Omar Bravo, Stephen Curry, and Victor Espinoza headline list of top achievers in the sports Hispanic Americans care about most
Entertainment and musical celebrities joined sports legends and Univision personalities for a no-holds-barred celebration of athletic excellence
MIAMI, FL – DECEMBER 20, 2015 – Sports and entertainment talent were on full display during the second annual Premios Univision Deportes (Univision Sports Awards) on Sunday evening. The athletes Hispanics admire most celebrated their achievements alongside top entertainers and personalities and walked away with their prizes. The awards show was the highlight of a full evening of star-studded evening in which Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) that also includes UDN, the No. 1 Spanish-language sports network, rewarded stellar performances on the field and beyond.
Award recipients, chosen from more than 60 nominees across 25 sports categories ranging from soccer to baseball, auto racing to diving, included Omar Bravo, Stephen Curry, Victor Espinoza, and Caterine Ibarguen, among others. Athletes were recognized for their passion, athletic excellence and their connection to Hispanic American sports fans. The complete list of 2015 categories and winners follows:

Univision Deportes went all out for the occasion. The evening got underway with Premios Univision Deportes: Las Nominaciones (Univision Sports Awards: The Nominations), a special one-hour program on UDN hosted by Univision Deportes’ Édgar Martínez and Adriana Monsalve showcasing the nominees and their accomplishments. Then a special edition of El Gordo y la Flaca (The Scoop and the Skinny) added tidbits and notes of color regarding the event. During the special gold-carpet, four awards were presented to Pelé, Caterine Ibarguen, Apdaly Lopez, and Club Santos Laguna to kick off the night.
After much anticipation, the winners were announced during a special live two-hour program on Univision Network, hosted by Univision’s Julián Gil and Jacqueline Bracamontes and simulcast on UDN, featuring celebs from the music, entertainment and sports worlds, including star coaches and champions from the field, ring and race tracks, among others.
The star athletes were joined throughout the evening by their counterparts from the world of music and entertainment. Calibre 50, Luis Coronel, Cristian Daniel, Farruko, Espinoza Paz and Daddy Yankee wowed the audience. Special highlights included Reykon and Bebe Rexha’s performance of Univision Deportes’ official 2015 Gold Cup song, “All the Way,” as well as Víctor Manuelle and Diego Torres coming together to sing “Hoy es Domingo.” The telenovela genre was represented by stars including Chantal Andere and Patricio Borguetti. And in a moving tribute, the late José Sulaimán, longtime head of the World of Boxing Council, was recognized with a special award handed over to his son, Mauricio Sulaimán, the current WBC president.
The fiesta continued with special editions of Univision hit shows Sal y Pimienta (Salt and Pepper), Contacto Deportivo (Sports Contact) and República Deportiva (Republic of Sports).
The glory wasn’t reserved just for athletes. As part of the Univision’s mission to empower the community it serves, during the awards ceremony the network highlighted its efforts on behalf of a soccer club for underserved kids in Miami.
In addition, all shows were available via Univision Now, UCI’s live streaming service of the Univision Network available on iOS, Android and the web.

MIAMI, FL – 20 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2015 – El talento deportivo y artístico fueron muy evidentes durante la segunda edición anual de Premios Univision Deportes la noche del domingo. Los deportistas a los que los hispanos más admiran celebraron sus logros junto a grandes artistas y celebridades. La ceremonia de premiación fue el momento culminante de una noche completa de programación con abundantes estrellas en la que Univision Deportes, la división deportiva multimedia de Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) que también incluye a UDN, la cadena No. 1 de deportes en español, reconoció el desempeño estelar en la cancha y más allá.

Univision Deportes tiró la casa por la ventana para la ocasión. La velada se inició con Premios Univision Deportes: Las Nominaciones, un programa especial de una hora en UDN presentado por Édgar Martínez y Adriana Monsalve de Univision Deportes, que destacó a los candidatos y sus logros. Luego una edición especial de El Gordo y la Flaca aportó detalles y notas de color sobre el evento. Durante la alfombra dorada, cuatro premios fueron presentado a Pelé, Caterine Ibarguen, Apdaly Lopez, y Club Santos Laguna para dar inicio a la noche.
El muy esperado anuncio de los ganadores se produjo durante un programa especial de dos horas en la Cadena Univision, conducido por Julián Gil y Jacqueline Bracamontes de Univision, y trasmitido simultáneamente en UDN, con celebridades del mundo de la música, el entretenimiento y los deportes, incluidos entrenadores estrella y campeones de la cancha, el ring y el autódromo, entre otros.

En un conmovedor homenaje, se reconoció al difunto José Sulaimán, quien dirigió el Consejo Mundial de Boxeo durante mucho tiempo, con un premio especial que se entregó a su hijo, Mauricio Sulaimán, el actual presidente del Consejo.
La fiesta continuó con ediciones especiales de los populares programas de Univision Sal y Pimienta, Contacto Deportivo y República Deportiva.
Pero los deportistas no se llevaron toda la gloria. Como parte de la misión de Univision de empoderar a la comunidad a la que brinda servicios, durante la ceremonia de premiación, la cadena destacó sus esfuerzos a favor de un club de fútbol en Miami para niños marginados.
