Juan Pablo Newman

Chief Financial Officer, TelevisaUnivision, Inc.

Juan Pablo Newman Aguilar is the Vice President of Advertising Sales & Marketing, of TelevisaUnivision Mexico. In this role, Newman Aguilar oversees all domestic ad sales, marketing and commercial operations of national and local free-to-air TV, pay TV, digital O&O and streaming in the country. He works alongside and manages cross-functional teams, including production, programming, research, and information technologies, integrating ad sales and content.

Newman Aguilar has a proven track record of managing and scaling financial operations in both the private and public sectors during his illustrious 20-year career. Before joining TelevisaUnivision, he served as CEO of Afore XXI-Banorte, the largest pension fund in Latin America, attaining the highest profit margin in their history. Prior to this, Newman Aguilar was the Head of the Public Credit Unit at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) of Mexico, overseeing national internal and external debt.

Newman Aguilar also served a stint as CFO of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), Mexico’s state-owned oil company. While at PEMEX, he successfully implemented an energy reform, which stabilized the credit rating of the company, and executed the company’s first oil hedging program. He gained further national attention by being recognized as one of the up-and-coming executives by Expansión Magazine and as one of the best CFOs by Executive World.

Earlier, while serving as CFO of Nacional Financiera (NAFIN), Mexico’s biggest development bank, he helped set a record in profits, received the “Best Long-Term Fixed Income Fund Award” from U.S. financial and investment firm, Morningstar, Inc. and issued the first Latin American green bond.

Newman Aguilar holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and received his Master of Science Degree in Operations Research from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The financial expert is also a world-class athlete. He represented Mexico as part of the national waterpolo team in the Pan American and Central American games in 2005, a sport that he continues to practice to this day.
