Daniel Coronell is the President of Univision News at TelevisaUnivision, the world’s leading Spanish-language media and content company. In this role, Coronell oversees all news programming, including network and local news coverage in the U.S. His journey with Univision News began in early 2011 as Vice President and News Director, leading to various senior roles before becoming President of News in 2016 and returning in 2023 after a two-year absence. Coronell’s visionary leadership has been instrumental in shaping the award-winning Univision News team, known for upholding the highest journalistic standards, a tireless work ethic, and a deep commitment to serving the Hispanic community.
As President of Univision News, Coronell oversees more than 2,000 hours of news content annually, which includes news programs, investigative journalism, and news magazine shows. His dynamic leadership transformed Noticiero Univision into the most-watched news program in the United States, regardless of language. He also spearheaded the multi-platform digital news operation for Univision, solidifying its standing as an indispensable source of information for the more than 64 million Hispanics living in the United States.
During his two-year hiatus from Univision, Coronell continued to make significant contributions to journalism independently, serving as an advisor on various journalistic projects. His career also includes other outstanding achievements, such as pioneering the project Noticias Uno in partnership with various production companies in Bogotá, Colombia, which offered a distinctive perspective on current affairs. Previous to this he took the least-watched news program on Colombian television at Noticias RCN and elevated it to the top spot within a period of seven months.
Throughout his career, Daniel Coronell has received numerous accolades, including ten Emmy Awards in News & Documentary, two Peabody Awards, eight Premio Nacional de Periodismo Simón Bolívar awards, and the Premio Cemex-Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano. Moreover, he has consistently been chosen as the most-read opinion columnist in Colombia for 14 consecutive years, according to the survey by the polling firm Cifras y Concepto.
Beyond his professional achievements, Coronell has also been a dedicated educator, sharing his expertise as a professor of Television, Journalistic Writing, Television Journalism, Investigative Journalism, and Contemporary Colombia at several prestigious institutions. He currently resides in Miami, Florida, where as head of Univision News, he continues to influence and shape the world of journalism, with a deep commitment to excellence and a passion for serving the Hispanic community.
Coronell holds a bachelor’s degree in social communication and journalism from Universidad Externado de Colombia and expertise in News Video Production from Instituto Oficial De Radio Televisión Española in Madrid, Spain. Coronell has a robust editorial and news production foundation and developed invaluable skills through other academic endeavors, including a Senior Knight Fellowship in Journalism at Stanford University and a Senior Visiting Scholar position at the University of California, Berkeley.
