Bernardo Gómez is Co-Chief Executive Officer of TelevisaUnivision Mexico. As Co-CEO, Gómez is responsible for making critical corporate, operational, and strategic decisions for the company. He also oversees the editorial content of national news programming and manages government relations with the federal, local and state governments in Mexico.
With over 25 years of dedicated service, Gómez’s career at Televisa began in 1998, where he quickly earned a reputation as a skilled decision-maker and leader. Within a year of joining the company, he was appointed Executive Vice President and became a Member of the Executive Office of the President, the Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors of Grupo Televisa.
He was instrumental in the successful restructuring of Televisa and turnaround between 1998 and 2000, which brought the company’s various operations back to profitability. Gómez was also a crucial part in the negotiations of the programming license agreement with Univision, before the merger, and the diversification of Televisa, beyond its traditional broadcast advertising business into an expansive telecommunications service, which later accounted for over 50% of consolidated revenue.
In 2017, when longtime Grupo Televisa CEO, Emilio Azcarraga stepped down, Gómez was named alongside Alfonso de Angoitia as Co-CEO. Together they spearheaded the $4.8 billion merger with Univision that eventually formed TelevisaUnivision, which combined Grupo Televisa’s assets in Mexico with Univision’s assets in the United States to reach more than 100 million Spanish-speaking audiences or over 60% of respective TV audiences in both countries.
Among his many accolades, Gómez was honored in 2002 by the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA) for his achievements in regulatory and freedom of expression. In 2006, he received Spain’s Ondas Award for Televisa’s coverage of the Mexican presidential election that year.
