Univision’s Leadership as the Home of Soccer Continues With Launch of Virtual Liga MX Soccer Tournament

As the undisputed Home of Soccer in the U.S., Univision has always given fans what they want: unrivaled coverage that puts them at the heart of the action with the very best teams and players. That’s why we account for more than 50% of all soccer viewing in the country, regardless of language.

Our leadership and excellence in soccer continues this week.  With sporting events around the world being postponed, we innovate and turn to technology to continue providing fans with all the excitement and passion of the beautiful game. It is in this context that I am very proud to announce the launch of a special virtual LIGA MX soccer tournament to be broadcast live on TUDN and our digital platforms.

In partnership with LIGA MX, the most-watched soccer league in the U.S., TUDN will broadcast the competition featuring stars from all 18 league teams in the first ever e-LIGA MX virtual tournament.  Not only will fans be able to watch a full season of match-ups with 17 jornadas (rounds) and Liguilla (playoffs) as in a real-life Liga MX season, but also witness their favorite players like Giovani Dos Santos from America and Santiago Gimenez from Cruz Azul go head-to-head as they have never done before, playing for their real-life teams.

From April 10th through May 31st, TUDN will host this competition based on the EA SPORTS FIFA game on the PlayStation console, broadcasting over 110 matches on linear TV and digital platforms.  The tournament will pit players from Mexico’s top tier league against one another in a 1-vs-1 format.  After the 17 jornadas, the eight teams with the most points at the end of the season will then move on to the single-elimination playoffs, with the winner crowned e-LIGA MX champion.

And true to our way of covering soccer like no one else, each game will feature pre- and post-game shows, providing all our fans with the insights and commentary they crave from our industry-leading talent team, including Diego Balado, Enrique Bermudez, Alejandro Berry, Ivan Zamorano and more. Game highlights, interviews and fan reaction will be available on TUDN.com and across our social media channels. We are all in!

At Univision, America’s Hispanic Superbrand, our goal every day is to find new avenues to super-serve our super-fans. I am thrilled to bring this new tournament into their homes and give them another reason to turn to Univision during these unprecedented times. It is a measure of our innovation and commitment to them, and how we aim to deliver the excitement of the fastest growing sport in the U.S. to all our fans across the country. Because even through these trying times, we are the Home of Soccer.
