CIUDAD DE MÉXICO – 20 DE MARZO DE 2025- Una pregunta primordial surge al observar México en los últimos años: ¿por qué ejercemos el mal contra otros? ANATOMÍA DEL MAL, EL CASO RANGEL indaga en la desaparición de Héctor Rangel, acontecida en 2009 en Monclova, Coahuila, para profundizar en los múltiples factores detrás de la crisis de desapariciones que enfrenta México, un país que acumula más de 110 mil personas reportadas como desaparecidas.
El 10 de noviembre de ese año, Héctor Rangel, con entonces 27 años, viajó junto a dos amigos, Hugo e Irene, desde la ciudad de Querétaro hasta Monclova, para cobrar un dinero que le debían. El recorrido sería de ida y vuelta, pero nunca volvió a casa.
La investigación periodística explora este caso a partir de un testimonio clave: el de Brenda Rangel, una de las hermanas de Héctor, quien nos conduce por cada suceso. Desde el momento del rapto, pasando por la búsqueda inicial que llevó a su familia a arriesgar sus propias vidas, hasta el limbo institucional en el que caen la mayoría de las desapariciones forzadas en México.
Este caso muestra que no es cierto que solo desaparecen personas relacionadas con el crimen organizado: Héctor es un joven que pasó por el lugar incorrecto, en el momento incorrecto. Bajo la dirección del documentalista Everardo González y la producción ejecutiva de Denise Maerker, se trata de una profunda y rigurosa investigación periodística que combina recursos cinematográficos y documentales con herramientas digitales y el uso de inteligencia artificial en sustitución de rostros para dar voz a los involucrados en este caso.
Producida en colaboración con Artegios, ANATOMÍA DEL MAL, EL CASO RANGEL busca exponer las estructuras de complicidad detrás de esta grave problemática, revelando la soledad y la lucha de las familias que buscan a sus familiares desaparecidos, y el tejido de una relación de complicidad que mantiene a México atrapado en una espiral de violencia.

On November 10, 2009, Héctor Rangel, 27 years old, traveled with two friends, Hugo and Irene, from Queretaro to Monclova to collect money he was owed. It was supposed to be a round trip, but Héctor never returned home.
The investigation focuses on Héctor’s case through a key testimony: his sister, Brenda Rangel. She guides us through the events—from the moment of the abduction to the family’s risky search for him, to the institutional hurdles that most families face in cases of enforced disappearances in Mexico.
This case shows that people unrelated to organized crime can disappear too. Héctor was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Directed by documentary filmmaker Everardo González and executive produced by Denise Maerker, ANATOMÍA DEL MAL, EL CASO RANGEL is a deep and rigorous journalistic investigation that blends cinematic techniques with digital tools, including the use of artificial intelligence to recreate faces to give voice to the people involved in the case.
