Univision Outperforms CBS and NBC in Primetime For Entire Week Among Adults 18-34

Univision Broadcast Prime Highlights – Week of March 2, 2020 to March 8, 2020

  • With live coverage of Liga MX, Univision ranked among the top-rated broadcast networks during primetime on Friday and Saturday night.
    • On Friday night, Univision captured the No. 2 broadcast network ranking for the entire night, ahead of ABC, CBS, NBC and The CW among Adults 18-34 and out-delivered NBC and The CW among Adults 18-49. The soccer matchup between Club América and Unam drew in more Total Viewers 2+ (+7% to 1.5 million), Adults 18-49 (+38% to 769,000) and Adults 18-34 (+35% to 297,000) to the network’s 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. time slot from the comparable Friday last year. It was also the highest-rated program on broadcast television among Adults 18-34 and  propelled Univision to a first-place finish on Spanish-language television with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo for the entire night among Total Viewers 2+ (+23% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+58% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+45% adv.).
    • On Saturday night, Univision outperformed CBS, NBC and FOX for the entire night among Adults 18-34 and finished ahead of CBS among Adults 18-49. Featuring Atlas vs. Guadalajara (Chivas), the matchup delivered 1.2 million Total Viewers 2+, 681,000 Adults 18-49 and 247,000 Adults 18-34, making it the top-rated program on broadcast television with both the key 18 to 49 and 18 to 34 demographics. It averaged more Total Viewers 2+ (+57%), Adults 18-49 (+53%) and Adults 18-34 (+79%) compared to the prior Saturday’s matchup of Tigres UANL vs. Unam and made Univision the No. 1 Spanish-language network for the entire night, out-delivering Telemundo by +16% among Total Viewers 2+, +34% among Adults 18-49 and +17% among Adults 18-34.
  • For the entire week, Univision finished as the third most-watched broadcast network in primetime, out-delivering CBS, NBC and The CW with 270,000 Adults 18-34 as well as the fifth largest broadcast network, ahead of The CW with 601,000 Adults 18-49 and 1.4 million Total Viewers 2+.
  • Univision delivered year-over-year primetime audience growth among Total Viewers 2+ (+11% to 1.4 million), Adults 18-49 (+11% to 601,000) and Adults 18-34 (+26% to 270,000).
  • Univision outperformed one or more of the English-language broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX) across every night last week among Adults 18-34 and on four out of seven nights among Adults 18-49.
  • For the fifteenth consecutive week, Univision ranked as the No. 1 Spanish-language network in primetime with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+36% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+32% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+36% adv.).
  • Univision also finished as the No. 1 Spanish-language network during weeknight primetime for the fifteenth consecutive week with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+51% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+44% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+50% adv.). Univision also out-delivered Telemundo by double-digit margins in the Monday through Friday hours of 8 p.m. (+10% adv.), 9 p.m. (+65% adv.) and 10 p.m. (+72% adv.) with the key Adult 18 to 49 demographic.
  • Univision’s “Ringo” averaged its highest-rated weekly performance this past week with week-over-week audience gains among Total Viewers 2+ (+3% to 1.7 million), Adults 18-49 (+6% to 688,000) and Adults 18-34 (+15% to 349,000). It also drew in more Adult 18-34 viewers than first-run episodes of ABC’s “A Million Little Things” and “Stumptown;” CBS’ “Blue Bloods,” “Carol’s Second Act,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Macgyver,” “Mom,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Seal Team,” “The Unicorn,” “Tommy” and “Young Sheldon;” NBC’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Indebted,” “Lincoln Rhyme,” “Manifest” and “Will & Grace;” FOX’s “9-1-1: Lone Star,” “Deputy,” “Empire,” “Last Man Standing” and “Outmatched;” as well as The CW’s “All American,” “Black Lightning,” “Katy Keene,” “Nancy Drew” and “Riverdale.”
  • Airing at a special time from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., Univision’s weeknight Turkish novela “Amor Eterno” increased its audience from the prior week among Total Viewers 2+ (+3% to 1.8 million), Adults 18-49 (+9% to 712,000) and Adults 18-34 (+26% to 330,000). It also delivered more Adult 18-49 viewers than first-run episodes of such English-language dramas as ABC’s “Stumptown;” CBS’ “S.W.A.T;” NBC’s “Lincoln Rhyme;” FOX’s “Deputy” and The CW’s “All American,” “Black Lightning,” “Katy Keene,” “Nancy Drew” and “Riverdale.”
  • Univision’s special news coverage of Super Tuesday 2020, “Destino 2020: Super Martes” attracted 1.3 million Total Viewers 2+, 536,000 Adults 18-49 and 233,000 Adults 18-34 and positioned it as the No. 2 broadcast network, ahead of ABC and CBS in the 10 p.m. hour with the key 18 to 49 demographic. The news special also outperformed Telemundo’s coverage, “Decision 2020: Super Martes” by double-digits among Total Viewers 2+ (+84% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+56% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+41% adv.).
  • The two-hour special broadcast of “Enamorandonos” averaged more Total Viewers 2+ (+41% to 1.2 million), Adults 18-49 (+18% to 447,000) and Adults 18-34 (+29% to 187,000) to the network’s Sunday 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. time slot from that of a year ago and made Univision a top-rated broadcast network in the time period with double-digit audience advantages over NBC (+50% adv.) and The CW (+95% adv.) among Adults 18-34. “Enamorandónos” also outperformed The CW’s entire primetime programming line-up consisting of “Batwoman” and “Supergirl” among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.
  • Univision’s Sunday night news programs, “Aquí y Ahora” (437,000) and “Crónicas” (323,000) increased their Adult 18-49 audience levels by +56% and +15%, respectively compared to their prior airings. Both “Aquí y Ahora” (+75% to 188,000) and “Crónicas” (+21% to 139,000) also delivered double-digit week-over-week audience gains with the young 18 to 34 demographic.
