MIAMI – FEBRUARY 4, 2020 – The famed host of the cooking segment on Univision Network’s top-rated morning show “Despierta América,” (Wake Up America) Chef Yisus, today announced the launch of his first cookbook, Cocina Delicioso con Chef Yisus (Cook Delicious Food with Chef Yisus) in which he shares his best cooking secrets and favorite recipes.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Jesús Díaz, also known as “Chef Yisus,” brings his recipes to the loyal “Despierta América” audience every morning with his charismatic personality and practical cooking tips to make life easier for Hispanic families. Given the great response to the segment and with the support of Univision Enterprises and Penguin Random House Editorial Group, the chef offers readers today’s traditional and international fusion recipes.

At just 17, Yisus arrived in the U.S. with dreams of becoming a great baseball player. The chef reminisces that his first days in this country, when he was accompanied only by his brother, led him to get involved with cooking. A few years ago, he opened his first restaurant, which led to a guest spot on the “Despierta América” program, where he would soon steal the hearts of producers and the audience.
Chef Yisus soon became part of “Despierta América’s” family. The Univision morning show has been waking up millions of viewers on the right side of the bed, every weekday morning since 1997. Two-time Daytime Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Morning Program in Spanish, Despierta America’s high dose of entertainment and culturally relevant content creates a winning formula. With the hosts’ friendly, relatable and lively personalities adding energy to the morning, viewers are treated to a variety of information aimed at helping and empowering the Hispanic community in their everyday lives. Cocina Delicioso con Chef Yisus includes 73 recipes inspired by the cuisines of a variety of countries, interpreted with traditional flavors that recall the past infused with innovation. Over five chapters, the chef goes through everyday life, summing up the best breakfasts, soups and salads, easy recipes, main courses and desserts, which the author says are his weakness. Each recipe is seasoned with dashes from his memories and personal stories: flavors from his childhood, the meals of his first years as an emigrant, his experiences on television, and of course, his family life.
