This fall, Univision announced its national Vota Conmigo (Vote with Me) Art Contest aimed at demonstrating the power of civic engagement. Our mission to inform, empower, and entertain our audience is reflected in our campaigns, like Vota Conmigo, which aims to help register, motivate, and mobilize Hispanic voters in 2020. We’ve learned there are multiple ways to inspire our audience and one crucial way we’re doing that is by motivating young adults to show us why they’re excited about having a voice in the upcoming elections.
Students across several of Univision’s markets submitted entries and 8 were chosen as regional finalists, with each receiving a $1,000 prize the opportunity to have their artwork voted upon by our national audiences. More than 30,000 votes were cast for the artwork from Houston, Miami, Los Angeles, McAllen, Sacramento, Las Vegas and San Diego.
We are proud to announce that Sophia Reynoso López from Sheldon High School in Sacramento, CA is the national winner of the Vota Conmigo art contest. Her piece highlighted the importance of the Latino vote and why elections are so important for the Latino community. In the new year, Sophia will have the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. to visit with the Univision D.C. team, meet with representatives in the Capitol, and see our democracy in action.

Copies of all of these amazing entries will be displayed in the Univision D.C. Office throughout 2020 to remind us all of the importance of democracy and the privileges we enjoy as Americans. Civic engagement can take many forms: Filling out a Census form. Speaking up at a forum or townhall. Becoming a citizen if eligible. Voting to make sure your voice is heard. Here at Univision, we hope these amazing pieces of art by our youth – our future – remind us all that civic engagement is not just an individual activity but one involving our communities and our families. During the upcoming primaries and come next November, we encourage everyone to turnout and turn to your neighbor, abuela, or amigo and remind them, “Vota Conmigo.”

Concurso de Arte y Participación Cívica de Vota Conmigo
En el otoño, Univision anunció su Concurso de Arte Vota Conmigo, que tuvo como propósito demostrar el poder de la participación cívica. Nuestra misión de informar, empoderar y entretener a nuestra audiencia se refleja en nuestras campañas, como Vota Conmigo, que tiene como propósito ayudar a inscribir, motivar y movilizar a los votantes hispanos en 2020. Nos hemos dado cuenta de que hay muchas maneras de inspirar a nuestra audiencia, y una manera crucial en que lo hacemos es al motivar a adultos jóvenes a mostrarnos por qué les entusiasma tener una voz en las próximas elecciones.
Participaron estudiantes en varios mercados de Univision, y se seleccionó a 8 como finalistas regionales, que recibieron un premio de $1,000 y la oportunidad de que nuestra audiencia nacional vote respecto a su arte. Se emitieron más de 30,000 votos para obras de arte de Houston, Miami, Los Ángeles, McAllen, Sacramento, Las Vegas y San Diego.
Es un orgullo anunciar que Sophia Reynoso López de Sheldon High School en Sacramento, CA es la ganadora nacional del concurso de arte Vota Conmigo. Su obra destacó la importancia del voto latino y por qué las elecciones son tan importantes para la comunidad latina. El próximo año, Sophia tendrá la oportunidad de viajar a Washington D.C. para visitar al equipo local de Univision, reunirse con representantes en el Capitolio y ver la democracia en acción.

La participación cívica cobra muchas formas: llenar el formulario del censo. Expresar su opinión en un foro o asamblea pública. Hacerse ciudadano si puede hacerlo. Votar para asegurarse de que se oiga su voz. Aquí en Univision, esperamos que estas magníficas obras de arte por nuestros jóvenes –nuestro futuro– nos recuerden a todos que la participación cívica no solo es una actividad individual sino una que concierne a nuestras comunidades y familias.
