Univision KWEX 41 morning anchor Myrna Salas received national recognition earlier this year, receiving a Telly Award for her special report on a sergeant who served in War World II.
The special titled “Pearl Harbor, La Guerra Que Cambió mi Vida,” or the war that changed my life, originally aired in May of 2018. Salas was a bronze winner for excellence in television.
Winning the award was a realization of dreams for the TV anchor, who had aspirations of excelling in TV journalism since she was a little girl. “When I was little I would play pretend and imitate TV anchors in Monterrey, (Mexico),” Salas said in an email to mySA. “I loved the way journalists would help the community with their problems.”
Salas began her career 10 years ago behind the scenes at a TV station in Monterrey, which so happens to be where she grew up. She said that the job gave her an opportunity to learn every role that makes a newscast possible.
Now at Univision in San Antonio, Salas is not only an anchor but also a producer and multimedia journalist.
The award-winning journalist said she has a lot of more goals and aspirations she is striving for.
“I would like to work on special reports that would allow me to travel national and international,” Salas said. “I would also love to work in a bigger TV market.”
Salas has this advice for future journalists pursuing their dreams: “Follow your dreams. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do anything. Just keep going forward.”
