What’s billed as Chicago’s first Spanish-language morning news show is coming next week to Univision Communications WGBO-Channel 66, Robert Feder writes.
Starting Monday, “Primera Hora” (“First Hour”) will air from 5 to 7 a.m. weekdays. Co-anchored by Alex Hernández and Diana Pérez, it will include hyperlocal news, weather, traffic, lifestyle and community-related content.
A unique feature of the show will be live, daily interactions with Mau Mauricio, morning personality on Univision Chicago Spanish contemporary “Latino Mix” WVIV 93.5-FM.
“It’s an honor to serve the Latino community every day with our midday and evening newscasts, and now we’re thrilled to fill this need for our audience,” Teri Arvesu, vice president of news and content at Univision Chicago Local Media, said in a statement.
“The entire Univision Chicago team is excited to kick off 2019 with relevant and engaging content in a timeslot where it has traditionally been missing. We look forward to ‘Primera Hora’ becoming a trusted and integral part of our audience’s morning routine as they start their day with the news they need.”
Pérez joined Univision Chicago in 2015 as a weather anchor before shifting to news as anchor of “Edición Digital” (“Digital Edition”) at 11:30 a.m. weekdays. Hernández joined Univision Chicago as a reporter in 2018.
